Reynolds Number...
Just a SWAG here. The bent fin is contributing to a high Reynolds number and will cause a greater turbulent chaotic condition. That coupled with the tendency of Jim's AP to occasionally drift to starboard.:yikes:

But once anchored behind Cat Island... All is calm and Laminar flow returns...

They may reduce vortices. You might gain speed... 8.1knts
@Rick486 has it correct.
The ripples will be in Laminar flow regime [already the best for deducing drag] and on the trailing edge on the Starboard side.
8.00001 knots, maybe.:pimp:

This is what it takes to repair a boat!

Dedicated Helper.

Removing Dive Ladder.jpg

He was removing the bent sea boarding ladder.
He did not know he could reach the Starboard side bolts from the other hatch.

That sea ladder was bent from Sea Tow's use of a 55 gallon garbage can to act as the rudder [drone].
But Adjusted by PIC.

Boy am learning so much about my boat, that I had ignored before.

Progress on hull repair too.

Step by Step.
Jim...

Hull Repairs underway until the Rains came again...
HoleAnchors.jpg
See our installed 2 Anchors?
____
The Damage is about 8" wide hole.
bowhole-2 .jpeg

Now this step...
Repairing.jpg

This the view of the Front Anchor locker looking down.

Forward Anchor Chain Locker.jpg

I first thought "the dark spot" was the plugged upper Anchor closet drain pipe, But the real pipe is under the damaged FRP [not seen].

The debris in bottom is swamp grass from the dunk.:(

As several Hunter owners have noted in Posts like this one...
Hunter 40.5 anchor locker drain leak fix

The Locker bottom is not level with the bottom drain hole and can hold water to corrode your chain.

With the Upper Drain Pipe repair and jumping the that gap I found this inside PVC adapter.
https://www.lowes.com/pd/PVC-Pipewo...apter-Coupling-PVC-Fitting-10-Pack/1001729668

That will couple 2 pieces - 3/4" Schedule 40 pipe together from the INSIDE versus the standard OUTSIDE coupler.

In this case, DO NOT worry about the extra Friction lost.

More to come on this repair...
Jim...

PS: You Sailors with large Hunters @Rich Stidger , @smokey73 , @Rick D , I may have a brainstorm about how to fix these Anchor Locker issue.;)

How much longer Jim??
Frequent question asked.
My guess is the Generator is the critical path item.

We are basically just starting to move forward.
1) Electrical check out 95% done.
2) Hull holes 50%
3) Rudder here, waiting on Final hull inspection near the snap point.
4) Generator being separated for removal.
5) Most latent damaged parts here or on order.

More action needed to move faster.

Yes, my experiences with major work in boat yards is infinitely slow.

The largest spot on Hull Damage now ready for Gel coat.

Hull Damage removed and structure revealed.

Closer view...
Close Up hull.JPG

A few things noted.
1) Balsa wood and its stress relieving horizontal - vertical scoring.
2) The Thickness of the Fiberglass Outer hull and gel coat.
3) The Lower Layer of Balsa is wedge shape.
4) TheFiberglass layers on top the the Balsa. [basically none]
5) Balsa is above the boat water line.
6) The curved area at the bottom edge of Blue gel coat... Inner Hull.

I thought we would need Cossa Bluewater 20, but Fiberglass expert said none needed.

________
Filled and FRP layered correctly...

One more hole to go! [see Anchor locker picts above post #87]

Its getting there. Sea Tow's patch was great. Glad the hull repair was straight forward.

Electrical Check out is complete.

We now have full 120 VAC on all outlets aboard and new GFCI's where needed.
This eliminated extension cords while working on board.:)
______

We have found Latent Damaged to the 12 VDC systems.
Note: Latent Damage means not yet Adjusted by Progressive Insurance [PIC].

1) Windlass Contactor. [Up works, Down not]
2) Aft head Macerator.
3) Forward Shower, Sump Pump.
4) Potable Water pump.
___
A reminder that the front half of the boat was submerged for 10+ minutes.

Many people thought we had to replace all the DC wiring that was dunked.

But I got very lucky and found the guy who actually wired my Boat!
Hunter boats "1-One service" available thru SBO. [Joe Kerr wired it]

That find of Joe, amazed PIC and the Dock Yard guys.

Asked Joe about the need to replace the submerged wire and terminals.
Ans: No.

But recommended these steps.
1) Clean terminals of salt water, etc.
2) Attach and verify circuit. [we used clamp on DC amp meter and DVM]
3) Detach and coat terminals with Anti-Ox to prevent corrosion. Attach again, or in a few cases , Liquid Tape to cover terminal.
4) Verify circuit was good.

Again my luck, my Son-In-Law, Johnny, is a ABYC electrician.:biggrin:
Johnny is an Electrical Supervisor, responsible for 20+ Gulf Oil platforms.
_____
We had at least 40 DC circuits aboard.
___

The time limiting item is still the "Fix or Replace" our 9k Generator, which is 120 VAC supply.

In this Electrical Check out, I have been able to control the Labor sources. Not true on other restoration, that is Labor limited.

Good news Jim, hopefully you will be back in the water soon! In this covid world, might be difficult getting a new generator or even getting parts if repair is indicated. Have you done an assessment of obvious damage to generator or potential future damages, if it was submerged?
Hang in there, it appears that the worst is over.

Finally the Hull is Water tight again.:)

All major structural damage has be completed even though the boat looks like a Junk Car.

The Starboard hole, that caused the flood into boat, has been repaired. [my Post #87 for the damage pictures]
First Patch.jpg

For a closer view.

Bow Repar1.jpg

Why is the there a square indent of about 1.5 inches?
LockerDrainIndent.jpg

That indent area is where the upper Anchor Locker Drain line was, and now removed.
Repairing.jpg

We found a grey looking thing, that we thought was a "Bracket" holding the drain pipe in place, but it turned out to be this.
what the heck.jpg
A rag surrounded with Grey Glue.

But it was acting like a structural support between Anchor Closet and outer hull, that takes the wave impacts.

That structure is now Coosa Board, installed in that gap.

Anchor locker view of the repair.
Locker Side view1.jpg

I am still wondering why Hunter designed in the Anchor locker Upper Drain, that is standard on most Hunters.

Any thoughts on why that drain is there?

We had not seen the boat, since we took the pictures above.

I sought input on the need to replace the Anchor Locker Upper Drain.
To Drill or Not to Drill?

Replies were split 50:50. So this morning, I sent an email to the yard, NOT to drill.

We went to the Yard today to give them extra money to keep them moving forward.

They said we owed them no money, but credited our account.:)

We drove slowly though the Yard looking at all the work being done on other boats.

Got to our boat and nearly fainted....

Where is the hull damage?

:yikes::clap::cool::D:dancing::wow3::wow3:

Made our weekend!!!!
Jim and Sue...

PS: We were told PCYW [ the Yard] had the best Fiberglass guy within 50 miles. Timmy is his name.
PSS: We believe it, WE BELIEVE IT !!!

We looks at all the damaged spots too.

The biggest crack, but no water intrusion. is on my post #92.

I believe that side was hit with a floating wooden Light Pole, since the Port Side hull was ok when Saba sat down ashore.

PortCrackReady1.jpg

This is now ready for the Gel Coat but here comes the real test.
Navy Blue and White Gel Coats.

I am going there to clean and power tool polish an area nearby to make sure there is a good match on the Blue.

We have a few scratches on the Blue Gel Coat too. [ Note scratch to the left on the picture]

PIC [Progressive Insurance Company] told me they want the Gel Coat is Pristine condition when finished.:biggrin:

Step by Step...
