That would be my expectation.

Rebuild of both engine and transmission. Hopefully they go another 45plus years.
Since they are 'known' for persistent leaks at the crank seals I wondered if there's better technology available these days.

Fresh seals being installed. I didn’t have that issue on my engine.
My BorgWarner V-drive had a seal leak issue. The rebuild included an upgraded design.

It’s hush hush. At the moment. Don’t want to jinx it.
Only the insiders know.:pimp:

We have waved a magic wand, put enchants on it, Prayed to the gods of the Oceans [Neptune] and toasted wine.

All should be good to avoid a Jinx. I hope.

WELL Good / bad and now ugly...

Scott, my diesel mechanic, recovered from Covid after taking a Hawaiian holiday in October. I thought we were back on track in the first part of November as Scott was saying He was days away from completing the build.

Then Mother Nature, not yet satisfied, gets in the act dumping cold weather on the boat/marina/and the shop. Marina closes for a couple of days due to temperature and ice. Even though the marina is tidal, during the winter runoff the river water flows into the marina and provides a surface layer on fresh water that can freeze and form a sheet of ice closing down all boat movement. Thanks giving came and went chilled to the bone. Then Scott tells me he has to fly back to the east coast to check in on the caregiving his mother is receiving.

Momma was ok. Scott was back. He was ready to discuss the exhaust system. He took the existing muffler to a shop and got back the info that design of the muffler was the likely cause for water backing up in to the engine. Authorized a build: an Improved muffler and water exhaust system to fit the engine space. What is another Boat buck when you in so deep?

Finally, the 12th looked like the weather would break. There would be a window of several days with above 40º temps. I called the Marina to set up a boat tow and haul. Reached the bottom paint guy. His schedule was open. Scott was informed the boat would be on the hard over Christmas. The reinstall could happen the week of the 27th. The exhaust system would need to be ready.

Morning of the 13th. Feeling Ugly. This feels like the flu. Give a call to my Doc looking for Tamaflu prescription. Voice message left. Next day I get a call Doc wants a Video appointment. Set up for 2PM. Remote Doctor Patient video appointments. This is just magic. What next TriCorders? No I had to go get the swab treatment. No big deal. Buzzed down to the Lab. They roto-rootered my nose. 3 hours later... No Flu. No RSV... You have COVID. WHAT? I made it for 2 plus years and now.... I am beginning to think Someone Somewhere does not want me to refit my boat.

Now the Haul and all the projects are put on hold, while I treat the disease. Who knew that the drugs you doctor prescribes are in short supply. You have to search the pharmacies to locate the ones with the right drugs and then coordinate the Doctors staff to send the right prescription to the right pharmacy. Oh my this is a brave new world. I wonder what folk would doo if they did not have the tenacity to ask questions and research the internet to identify the medicines and conformation that the meds can be supplied in a timely manner.

So now you know the good the bad and the Ugly. I'm off for the next hour to collect my meds and get the program going. With some prayer, I will test negative next week and I can fire up the plan to get SV Hadley back together and repowered.

Merry Christmas everyone. I am feeling merry. I am still here and kicking.

Merry Christmas. I know the feeling Re Covid. After 2 years and the 2 vaccines plus 2 boosters + the latest Bi-valent one. I tested positive in mid-October !!! Awful sick for 3 to 4 days then it slowly got better. Lasted about 8 days. But for your info, don't expect to test negative for quite a while. The virus stays in you and shows up for a number of weeks even though you're no longer sick and no longer contagious. I got worried until I called the health board and it was explained to me. Good luck and have a nice rest over the holiday season.

Sorry to hear about you being set down by COVID. Not good timing at all. But you still have time to recover your health and get the boat back together and ship shape for a spring cruise.

So sorry things are going so poorly. We all have to persevere. You'll be successful in kicking COVID and getting S/V Hadley up and running!

Hey John, that really sucks! My bout with Covid lasted about 6 days. My main complaint was severe sore throat. My doc prescribed Paxlovid and symptoms started to abate within 6 hours of the first dose.
Get well soon!

My doc prescribed Paxlovid
I have received the same prescription. I understand it is experimental approved under an emergency.
Hope someone checked this out.

Well get better yourself, and then you can get the boat back in shape. It's never easy...

Sheesh, John. What a saga. This is one for the history books. I've never and will never take the jab poison. Ditto the flu poison. Just better to take care of your body the best you can to prevent any morbidity issues.

Some day you and I will spend time together discussing all of this over a stiff scotch or two, including several succulents. All of this awaits. Soon blues skies and a brisk wind will return to carry you to a heavenly anchorage. Be well my friend.

John,
You have my sympathy. The admiral came down with covid on 11/14 and I got it on 11/17. Both of us were vaxed and boosted 2x. Wasnt that bad for me, felt like I had a cold with a mild cough. Little to no fever. Both of us were prescribed Paxlovid for 5 days. I was back to normal after one week, but continued to test + for an additional 3 weeks. Wife is still fighting a bad cough that is slowly improving. Keep on top of this and if you aren't getting better (or getting worse), don't hesitate to return to your doc or an urgent care doc; nothing to play around with. I had two healthy patients in their 30's who died from covid. Hope you're feeling better soon and can get back to the boat in January.
