It is 27th of October... I had mentioned this was a planned day to haul the boat. Not happening.
Here is the update.
Where has the year gone? As I shared in post #1 the plans for 2022 were to cruise the waters of BC. All my planning and preparation was progressing with out a hitch... til I looked at my engine and thought I should make sure it was ready for this trip into the wilderness of the Pacific NW. March 18th was the beginning of the end of my planned 2022 adventure. With the help of a mechanic I opened the engine cover and adjusted the valves.
Here we are. The weather is changing. Fall temps have turned trees too bright colors and boats are being prepared for winter. I should be out sailing.
Amid this activity I am about to get my motor rebuilt and back into the boat. A chat with my mechanic (who is now dealing with covid after a vacation to Hawaii) updated me yesterday.
The parts for the engine have been ordered. They are due for delivery mid week. Evidently I am to assume the machinist did their thing. I was not provided details. I will inquire. The rebuild is scheduled to start about the 1st and the mechanic believes it will be ready to install the 7th or 8th. We are thinking that crane to lift the engine and transmission back into the boat will make our lives a little easier.
As a side note, it is interesting that the rebuilt engine and transmission will cost about 2 times the cost of the suit of sails I bought 2 years ago. As has been said Old Boats are not cheap. What you may save in initial expense comes back to bite you in maintenance that was deferred by previous owners. That said, I am still enjoying the ride and the adventures I have had as a result of buying the boat when I did.
There is lots to do to reconnect all that we pulled apart. I am by no means out of the woods, but I have progressed along the path and think there is light at the end of the tunnel. Praying it is not the light of an express train heading my way.
Positive vibes. Will let you know what happens
The boat is to hauled the 4th and tentatively splashed on the 12th.
