More progress as the second coat of Bottom Paint has been applied and masking tape removed.

2nd coat.jpeg

Admiral Sue noted the white streaking on the Dark Blue, but I assured her not when finally done.

_____

Finally the Rudder got painted too. Per Foss Foam's painting instructions to prevent the foam core from expanding.

Rudder Painted.jpeg

Why did we tint White Ablative Paint Light Blue [also 2 coats] ?

The propeller wash will remove that Rudder paint over time, revealing the White Gel coat over time.

When we start seeing a lot of White, it will be a good indicator of needing a new painting [hope 5 years].

We added some of the Dark Blue to tint the White that shade.

The yard is a Pettit dealer and never heard of Vivid Colors so he had to buy it from Amazon.

So good thing I am doing our Research on the boat.
________

Progressing now to Generator removal and replacement.

Should be sailing in no time now
Not until PIC does my New Generator , waiting on them to decide what is next.

After that I will be re-assembling our boat, which a major task in itself.

Lot to do before back in the water...

Progressing though...

PIC did decide the dunked old Kohler 9kW was ruined.:clap:

This is what it looked like when we bought our Boat.
genset.jpeg

Note the Silver insulation that was surrounding it for noise and heat reduction.
Also the White flex tubing on a fan that pulled air to the outside.
Total weight of that unit = 420 lbs on the Starboard Side offsetting the Port side Galley weight.

This is the boat layout...
gensetlayout.png

Item 10, which is under the Queen size front Bed in a Private cabin.
Item 3 is the 50 HP Volvo Penta Engine which is important, since the Engine is below the opening to bring a new
Generator inside.

Good Design by Hunter, to remove the Engine by a single direct lift, if needed.:)
This is a sleep 6 boat, two private cabins and the Dining Table slides down for the second not so private berth.
____
We have ordered the new Kohler 9kW diesel Marine generator with insulated enclosure ≈$11k

This unit weighs 20 lbs less, from the newest Yanmar 16hp motor design.

GensetDimension.png

This has been the Main delay in Restoration of our boat.

So now the fun begins on how to get the new Genset into its original spot.

The good news is the Kohler Generator sales, install and repair place is 30 miles away. In business since 1912.

Finally the old 9kW Kohler Genset is off the BOAT!!:biggrin:
Several people input to the method we used to the move the 16 HP Yanmar engine.

This was the plan.
GensetInstall1.png

Move the 220 lb engine to the Hatch for crane lift off the boat.
First of all NO ONE GETS HURT!!!

We used a 1000 lb Furniture mover.

MovingConcept.jpeg

Three guys made the hand lift to the Furniture mover and rolled to the Hatch.

GenEngineRemoval.jpeg

I have great Movie of this and may can load it to SBO.

Please note the Captain [me] giving the orders, the Crew working...;)

The Yard provided the lift and the Safety once on the Crane
Prepforlift.jpg

Hooked chains thru the Lifting Lugs on the engine.

And safely off the Boat.

No damage to boat or people!!:clap:

The new Generator is on order, so we are almost ready for that.

Whooo hoooo yay!!! :dancing::dancing:

Guess what is being Put on our boat , Monday Nov 7th?

Koler9kw.jpeg

It has been a major adventure for sure.

I will make a video of the amazing device my Son-In-Laws built to set in place. I designed it, they built it.

but to whet you appetite...

Tram way Built.jpeg

Once the new Kohler 9KW is bolted down

We can start to put our boat back together
:clap::pimp::wow3:

I did a full movie of this and will post to

Rumble

Where I can monetize it $$ :pimp:

But to start off.

Now the fun begins...

Kohler New.png

Opps the Yard's lifting fork is too Short for full reach.

TooLongReach.png

The boat opening is directly adjacent to my Helper [Ronnie with Red Hat].

The other guy is part of Yard Crew.

We slowly lowered it to the Companion Way Hatch.

This is my View from Inside the Boat.

LiftbyYard.jpg

The next part is too complicated to explain for now.

But I will not keep you waiting

The new Kohler 9KW Generator is on the boat, safely and done.

@jssailem noted today , my humor is back again.:biggrin:

We had many helpers and extra brain power to design the hoist inside the boat.

This was the conceptual design to build a Tram Way.
Concept for Tram.png

Horizontal beam with rails[ Purple line]. Two vertical posts of different height, but I eliminated the diagonal brace.

We used the same stuff from the old Generator engine removal. See my Post #148 above.

I did my engineering to calculate the Heights of the aft 4x4 post.

GemsetLift.png

The Bow's 4x4 post had to be measured on the boat.

This Hoist had to be assembled after the Generator was on the Run Way.
____
Now a few more pictures of getting it on the boat.

putting on Mover.jpg

Anthony, my Son-In-Law, on the left , directed the show.
Timmy, on my crew, is on the right and had the sloped ramp concept

Then down to the Run Way....
Rolled Down Ramp.jpg

Everyone applauded that. The Yards Part was done. Now just my team.

But the original design Height was too tall. Opps..

So we have to remove the 4.5 inch Mover. That was not an easy thing. Lucky we had some Muscle Power as Genset wanted to tilt off the Mover.

Romoving Mover.jpg

Ok end of this part.

Next post I will show how we made sure our lift was steady and held the weight without tipping or collapsing.

Safety Supervisor and Captain.
