You have a really nice boat. And one thing that I've heard others say.... and has been definitely true for me is... "The smaller the boat, the more often you go sailing". She sure looks like a lot of fun and will make a nice little camper boat.

Thanks again guys. I am excited to start camping in her. Darlene and I came up with a good name. "Second Wind" Think it is fitting!

I think it looks great! obviously less light but... if they are opening ports I think it would be a big plus in hot Florida... and how much light do you really want in the cabin anyway. At night you have lights and if you are in the cabin in the daytime you are most likely trying to take a nap... if you are in the cabin to use the head... well do you really want a lot of light in there for that...

Add one or two more of those and as rgranger said, make them opening port holes and you've got quite a nice upgrade :)

I wonder how a screw in clear access hatch would look

http://www.iboats.com/Screw-Out-Dec...6469788--session_id.587287895--view_id.131117

I think being able to look out just a bit does reduce the claustrophobic effect.

is that photoshop or you cut the holes?
Novel idea and I kind of like it but I think 6" would make a small port hole.
And it would not be very convenient to open. You would have to go outside to open ... and then if you drop one of the covers in the water....

Yeah, I don't like the drop overboard idea either. Maybe I will bring a spare. Bill they are just paper with black spray paint taped on. I am thinking to use the screw out clear covers.

I have one (round access port), on my kayak, and the center part has a place for a screw. (so its captive w/mono line to the ring).

But its not the cleanest look on an otherwise sharp looking boat. maybe if you can find smoke inserts?

IMHO, these are really the nicest, but $$$$$$$$ -sometimes you see them for around 50-$100.

but, once you cut it, you probably don't want to go back and close it up (re glass) again then cut again...

just throwing out ideas... black ring with smoke might look OK.

Depends on how much you'll camp out, and how late in the year....

edit:
wow, $40 thats what I suggest: 2 should do you vs: 4 rounds.

How about these? They are those beckson clearance hatches. Mock up.
They look even better than the round ones and they give you more window area to boot

they should be up about 1/2 inch off hte deck, so water doesn't pour in on a heel.

how did 1 per side look? looks fine to me. -the round ones did look a bit funny.

That is going to be perfect. You are going to have a really nice boat. Congrats... I can't wait until spring and get my boat back in the water. Thanks for sharing your restoration with us... it has been a vicarious thrill.

The added ventilation from opening ports is nice too. I have 2 forward and leave them open except for severe storm warnings.

Today I finished up with the 5200 under the hull deck joint. There are no gaps anymore. Next week I will get the screws out and install the rub rail.

The motor mount is on and bedded. That was a bear of job but it is done. For backing I have 2 layers of 3/8" marine ply held with 3/8" bolts and fender washers.

Also got the comp. hatch and rails mounted. I built the new winch holder thingamajig. Looks good. I have been using the 3m 4000 uv for most of these jobs. It is called a polyether and has a ton of uses.

I have been getting a ton of how to advice from Don Casey's book, This old Boat. It is a fantastic reference for this kind of torture, I mean project.
