...... I have been using the 3m 4000 uv for most of these jobs. It is called a polyether and has a ton of uses. ...
I like the 4000 and have used it on most of the bedding jobs that I've had to do. When we left the boat in Florida last winter I was worried about how much water was going to go in at the chain plates since they leaked and also the windows while we were gone for a couple months. I just cleaned around them with a paper towel and water and put the 4000 around the joints and smoothed it with my fingers and left. Had about 15 minutes in the job. Over a year later and none of it is leaking yet.

When it does I might try the butyl tape.

Which Tohatsu is that? I can't get a sense of scale. Is it the 3 1/2 HP long shaft or the 6 HP? We have a 3 1/2 and love it. Ruth just sewed up a cover for it today,

It is the 5 hp long shaft.

Didn't get much done today due to my pesky job. More bedding of hardware. Got the winch base mostly mounted, seems like it will work just fine.
Today I figured out a great screw and nut organizer. It is a tote from the home depot that holds 4 removable Plano type trays. I made one for 1/4" stuff, one for #10, and one for #8. The last one is still empty. Its very easy to use and carry out to the boat.

what kind of wood are you using? I really like the little bench. nice transition.

bet an little window a/c would fit there!

-not to give you any more projects, but a board to span that footwell would make that a nice bed w/ an air mattress. (if its long enough in the cockpit ?)

That is all teak. I could fill the cockpit if I had to but it is only 5' long.
I hadn't thought of a air conditioner! That would be awesome! Probably not in the cards though.

hmm, OK, that's not going to work for you..

The little a/c units are under 100bucks... if you stay at a marina, you're set.... a nice option to vacation in the keys... daysail then marina.

a honda 2000 will run it, maybe less.
at bahia honda or elliott key harbor people set the genny on the land/dock.

But that can added later..

When I was looking for a generator for storm season, I ended up with a Honda 2000. Maybe my subconscious was on to this thread. Now all I need is that ac unit.:)

fwiw, I tried running my honda on the boat, in the backyard, but never tried it on the water.... I think I'd need to add some kind of exhaust extension. ( I have a digital co2 detector, but the heat scared me).

I wonder what sumner has... or could come up with (hint hint). :)

The newer a/c's are even more efficient than my old one. mine ran around 6+ hours on econo mode.

if you have one for a hurricane, you'll want an a/c at least for night time. the fridge can coast overnight ;)

Anyway, its really looking good!

Thanks man, can't wait to get her done. I only get 2 days this week to work on it.
I am still trying to shoot for a February launch.
One minor issue that I have to solve is the slots for the chain plates. They don't line up anymore. I am thinking to just mount them either on the outside of hull, or more inboard of the original place with a bend .
For the bow, I am going to add a nice anchor roller and somehow attach the forstay to it. My idea is to use two pad eyes back to back. One on the inside that is connected to the back side of the bow eye u bolt via a turnbuckle and a nut with an eye on it. Did that make sense?

Holly, you are doing a fantastic job on your boat! I am enjoying your blog and am looking forward to seeing it in the water (not as much as you I bet!!!!). Your stem fitting idea looks like a good one. Here's how i did mine to give you another perspective.

I couldn't get the pics to open on my phone but it looks like a good plan. Did you make a backer board for the roller? I think I am going to make one with starboard.

Yes, I used a piece of 1/4" alum as a backer. It also acts as the backer for my tack fitting (the small eye strap just to starboard of the roller). Starboard should work nice, just make sure to use fender washers under the nuts.

Will be using big ol' fender washers on those big ol' 3/8" bolts on the roller. I am home now and see your pics. Very nice. Is that an epoxy filler between the plate and the hull? (Gray). Maybe I will go that route! Had any problems with yours?

For those "big ol' 3/8 bolts on the roller, I used ss round headed bolts (like the ones Macgregor used to hold the chainplates to the hull) to cut down on chafe possibilities. Yes that is West Systems epoxy in there to fill the gap. I coated the fitting with mold release agent, then bolted it in place, and pushed the epoxy into the void behind, and letting enough "stick out" to sand into the finished product. After curing, remove the fitting, sand to shape, paint and re-install fitting (use bedding compound). It's been there for two years and I haven't had any issues. Putting it there does increase your "J" dimension by afew inches, so if you are racing in PHRF, make sure you use the corrected measurement on your rating application.

Today was a good day. With the help of my little brother and my brother in law, we got the rub rail installed. If you are through bolting, it is definitely a 3 person job. We ended up using screws on the parts by the seats and some of the transom where the wood was. The rest was bolted. That was a ton of hardware.
Pics coming.
Got the game plan together for the roller and forestay ad well.

Today was finish rub rail, install bow roller, cleat, winch. That pad eye will hold the forstay.
