@kappykaplan They have been more like skirmishes.
The latest challenge was the failure of my Sherwood Raw Water Pump. Perkins in their vertical marketing wisdom designed the 4.107 with a single source water pump. They coupled the High pressure Fuel pump and the Raw water pump to a gear driven by the Camshaft. As the engine RPM increases more fuel is delivered to the injectors and more water is pumped through the engine raw water system (Heat Exchanger).
With the Sherwood pump failure (due to age), the removal seemed a simple task. Remove the pump and the two water lines, get the repair kit. Reinstall the pump and water lines, we are back in business in less than a week. ONLY.... the kits are not available in the Pacific NW. Ebay had 3 in Florida. Fast shipping would be a week to 10 days, depending on shipping. I found a replacement pump 4 available in Fresno CA. So I ordered 1 of each be shipped to my house. With repairs at a standstill and home life work needed, I headed home. I left the boat dry, no water intrusion, all the through hulls closed.
Sipping Saturday morning coffee, awaiting the delivery of my repair kit I got a text.
"Boat appears to be sinking"
Then the marina called. We are boarding your boat. It is taking on water. We are going to pump it out.
They spent aboutt 90 minutes pumping water out of the boat. A friend of my mechanic, was called and he found that the pump hose to the heat exchanger was the source of the water. It had been left to dangle while the Raw Water Pump was being fixed. When it fell beneath the level of the Heat exchanger, a siphon event occurred and water flowed up from the PSS Shaft Seal through the Heat Exchanger and out the pipe dumping the water into the bilge.
