Thanks guys. It feels like every time I near the finish line another storm cloud swoops over the boat.

The water intrusion created quite a mess. I’ll write it up later. I left the boat yesterday for a couple days. She is drying out. The bilge is nearly empty. Clean up and rebuilding the electrical system.

It has certainly been above and beyond on this one.

So now with an electrical rebuild, a lot of decisions face you.

How is the engine itself? Any damage to it from the water intrusion? (Perhaps the level did not get up high enough for that?)

@kappykaplan They have been more like skirmishes.

The latest challenge was the failure of my Sherwood Raw Water Pump. Perkins in their vertical marketing wisdom designed the 4.107 with a single source water pump. They coupled the High pressure Fuel pump and the Raw water pump to a gear driven by the Camshaft. As the engine RPM increases more fuel is delivered to the injectors and more water is pumped through the engine raw water system (Heat Exchanger).

With the Sherwood pump failure (due to age), the removal seemed a simple task. Remove the pump and the two water lines, get the repair kit. Reinstall the pump and water lines, we are back in business in less than a week. ONLY.... the kits are not available in the Pacific NW. Ebay had 3 in Florida. Fast shipping would be a week to 10 days, depending on shipping. I found a replacement pump 4 available in Fresno CA. So I ordered 1 of each be shipped to my house. With repairs at a standstill and home life work needed, I headed home. I left the boat dry, no water intrusion, all the through hulls closed.

Sipping Saturday morning coffee, awaiting the delivery of my repair kit I got a text.
"Boat appears to be sinking"

Then the marina called. We are boarding your boat. It is taking on water. We are going to pump it out.

They spent aboutt 90 minutes pumping water out of the boat. A friend of my mechanic, was called and he found that the pump hose to the heat exchanger was the source of the water. It had been left to dangle while the Raw Water Pump was being fixed. When it fell beneath the level of the Heat exchanger, a siphon event occurred and water flowed up from the PSS Shaft Seal through the Heat Exchanger and out the pipe dumping the water into the bilge.

Alan, very good question. No definitive answer. I sucked about 2 gallons of water along withe the engine oil out of the engine. Refilled the Engine with new oil.

Looking at the cylinders (mechanic used a bore scope) he could not see rust. Pulling the injectors, we found diesel on them not water. Mechanic rotated the camshaft by hand. The starter was toasted in the flood and battery short. Until a new starter is delivered (Friday), we can not turn the engine over.

Oh, man! I'm praying that your engine comes out of this unscathed (other than the easily-replaceable starter).

The only way that happened is some Power Boat zoomed by the boat, thus starting the Siphon.

It was in a NO WAKE ZONE.

The conductivity of salt water is really destructive.

These images are of the Positive power cables. When the water flowed up and over the batteries. They shorted out and burned off the lugs. The Blue Sea power busbars were destroyed. New electrical cables are in the near future. At the least I will have the sizes. The silt/mud is an annoyance. It is everywhere under every thing.

I thought this was interesting. The fused cable connectors were destroyed in the electrical soup. Yet the 1 amp fuse is still good.

Once I get the engine functioning, I see a couple of days of electrical inspection and repair in my future.

You got that right. There sure look to have been a series of speed bumps dropped in our path.

Does not look like it. The charged water in the area of the transmission, corroded the surface metal and removed the paint from the transmission.

Upon opening the transmission, I could not see any water. I will be removing all of the ATF and replenishing with new.

When I ran the boat from the lift to the slip (two weeks ago) the rebuilt transmission ran smooth, like a baby's behind.
