At this point why not just buy and slap in a new water pump and then rebuild the old one at your leisure and save it onboard as a spare?

His issue is the Sherwood G65 water pump Lip Seal.

I helped his search and found one for $25.

Lip Seals wear out over time.

His impeller looked good.

So the water was coming from the weep hole?

Other parts in that pump also wear out over time, which is why carrying a spare for that particular item isn’t a bad idea if one is planning to go cruising. Hence, my suggestion to slap in a new pump to finally get the engine operational and rebuild the spare at his leisure.

But at $475 not the cheapest option.

per John there are 4 weep holes.

He was amazed how much flow too.

Those seals are the most common failure. I had it go out on my Oberdorfer and planned to rebuild but once I opened up the pump, I found that the shaft was scored, the cover was scored, and the cam was worn. All of those parts could be replaced but at a cost of 90% replacement so that was a no brainer.

Yes the issue has been identified as the lip seal. Water was exiting the weep hole and spraying like it was the cover gasket. It appears the manufacturer of the lip has been having supply chain issues. Tried several pump distributors nothing has been confirmed. Several suppliers offer to sell them when the back order is replenished.
The pump is a Sherwood G65. Prices range from $616 to $985 shipping added.
Part # for the lip seal in SHW 10514C, if anyone finds one let me know.

Or is it 10514C?
The say they have 2 of those here.

12 here:

But I know you can't always believe what vendors say on the web about their inventory.

Thank you Richard. Your right. I mistyped.

I called the first site. I’ll try the second site. Thanks.

Talking about a different water pump here: when I had a problem with the Johnson pump on my Yanmar 2GM20F (in 2020 maybe?), it went from nothing to a slow drip to making a decent size puddle in maybe 4 weeks or so. It turned out to be the lip seal, and was a pretty easy and cheap fix.

On the Universal M25 series engine, most owners with the Sherwood pump replace it with an Oberdorfer that works as a nearly direct replacement for about half the price. Not sure if they have a replacement for yours.

Plus, the Oberdorfer is a superior pump.

I located LipSeals at MarinePartSource. They have two online sales sites, one via E-Bay.. Ordered 2 of the 5 seals they have listed in stock. Reported to be delivered by 3-7 Aug. Fingers crossed one will be in good shape and will work. If both are good, I'll have a spare.

I looked at the Sherwood Pumps and Parts site @WayneH, thanks. They had the best copy of the pump diagram. They charge a bit more for shipping.

I liked the MarinePartsSource site. They list their inventory locations. Gave me the feeling of a better likelihood of parts availability. Until the product is in hand it is all illusionary like Vaporware software.
