I have had the 26S in the marina now since Nov 1 (22 days) and am keeping the batteries charged with just a 10 watt solar panel plus the outboard. I left the boat today down only about 10 amp*hours. Most I have been down is just a hair over 13 amp hours. This is with using the car stereo, GPS fish finder, VHF radio (listen) a fair amount. We camped in the boat one night during this time.
However, today I noticed out of the water that at 1:30 in the afternoon on a bright sunny day, I was getting nearly zero current from the solar panel. I looked at the panel and its a combination of the winter sun (remember its Nov 22) and the partial shading. The picture below shows the panel when I was getting near 0 amps.
I then removed the panel and got it out of any thing shading it and angled it slightly at the sun. I was then getting .5 amps
The picture below is at 3 PM and I had angled the panel directly at the sun. I was getting .6 amps which is close to the full rated current. So... new project as I am losing a huge amount from that panel where its mounted plus its mounted bad for how the slip is oriented. A lot of this "issue" simply comes because of the time of year with the low sun - only one month from winter solstice. Dog in the picture showed little concern for the solar panel output.
Wind picked up a little later for a really fine afternoon.. sailed 4 out of the last 5 days.
