....I copied an idea from Azarac who posts here sometimes for an extension to hold the end of the furler that extends past the mast when trailering....
I thought I might have to do that but the furler doesn't hang...

... out far enough to want to bend on the foil. Not sure why but I trailered to Florida and back and it has been on the boat like that parked for some years now with no bending so I'll leave it as is. I do lash it to the mast for some distance before the overhang though,

Sumner, thanks for the material links, I will do the same when I get around to this in a few months.

The picture below shows my jib/furler when I was just "sizing" things and in this case, it did seem like I needed a support. I also leave this boat in a very hot place for the summer which seemed like an additional reason. And.. apparently I just enjoy making things like this LOL..

I love how easy it is to post pictures on this forum!!!

Walt if I had that much overhang I'd want to support it also.

I have 12 inches from the pulpit to the end of the drum.

Looks like you have more than that and what is more normal.

I think I have less because I moved the forestay up the mast some when I went to the roller furler and the larger/longer Johnson lever which moves the drum back towards the pulpit further when the mast is down,

I didn't do anything to my Mac lately, but I did finally get back here after the app crashed. Planning on a 4 day run next week though

New Mac 25 owner as of last Sunday :dancing:. Not sure yet if this is a replacement or an in-addition-to our Capri 14.2, but we'll decide that next summer. Today I built a stand/tank to test run the 6hp Johnson kicker that came with the Mac. the stand worked, as did the kicker. runs like a watch :)

Put Cuivienen, my 26S up on Sailingtexas.com today. I bought a Hunter 30T in September. This takes owning a sailboat to a much higher level. I think I will miss the simplicity of the Mac at times.

Getting the lead setup for the new 110 Jib ironed out yesterday and today. I extended the inside track another two feet and the spot I like puts the lead around two feet aft of where the stock working jib lead is.

Looks good Walt. I thought the weather guy said Denver just got dumped on by 2 feet of snow??

I played sail repair guy today. there was a 8" split along the lower leach of the main, and I had a chunk of sail cloth laying around, so…. I think it came out pretty good actually. the main is getting a little beat up, but it should last me another year or two now anyway.

two feet of snow!!! Colorado is one of my favorite places on the planet but as I sit here in a T shirt, shorts and sandals with the back door wide open - and after a nice Hobie TI sail this morning.. Im happy Im not there. Im in Lake Havasu Arizona for most of the winter and thats where the pictures were taken.

Your new boat is looking great, especially with the Oregon forest background.

Good to see you are really enjoying the place down there!!! You are going to make a lot of sailors envious over the next 5 months or so :).

Awwwww. lucky dog you. We do love our forest in Oregon also however. We often have snow in the surrounding mountains ,but very very rarely an inch or so at our house, or in town. just as it should be. ;)

Is there still a crazy guy towing up hang gliders on a pay-out winch, from a boat mounted platform, on Lake Havasu?

At least in the winter.. not that I know of. In the winter its more like "summer camp for seniors". Summer.. who knows, it changes here. Right now is 67F on its way to 77F and blowing 15 - 20 mph..

When I bought the Mac it had some 2" PVC plastic (Fulton) guide posts on it. didn't seem like the hot setup to me, so I had a buddy of mine bend up some 1 7/8" exhaust tubing for me. I then welded in some 1/2" axles in the top and mounted a hard plastic roller (deck wheels off a lawn tractor). should help guide the boat onto the trailer if there's a slight cross wind.

I need a place to dry dock the new toy, so I spent the day today (and much of yesterday) digging out an 8" oak stump, leveling the ground next to one of our carports, and slid the existing carport over and back a couple feet. these metal building are great for all kinds of things, and this should be a perfect thing for it. there are already 3 on the property, so they know where to come when I call for another installation ;) . this one will be 12' x 31' x 9' tall plus 6 inches or so for the cement blocks that it will sit on. There's more room on the far side than it appears in the pic. not tons, but it should be enough that I'll be able to drive in one end and out the other, with boat in tow [knocks on wood]. One thing I know for sure. this is way more work that this old man likes to do these days. I'm pooped!!

I have had the 26S in the marina now since Nov 1 (22 days) and am keeping the batteries charged with just a 10 watt solar panel plus the outboard. I left the boat today down only about 10 amp*hours. Most I have been down is just a hair over 13 amp hours. This is with using the car stereo, GPS fish finder, VHF radio (listen) a fair amount. We camped in the boat one night during this time.

However, today I noticed out of the water that at 1:30 in the afternoon on a bright sunny day, I was getting nearly zero current from the solar panel. I looked at the panel and its a combination of the winter sun (remember its Nov 22) and the partial shading. The picture below shows the panel when I was getting near 0 amps.

solar1.JPG

I then removed the panel and got it out of any thing shading it and angled it slightly at the sun. I was then getting .5 amps

The picture below is at 3 PM and I had angled the panel directly at the sun. I was getting .6 amps which is close to the full rated current. So... new project as I am losing a huge amount from that panel where its mounted plus its mounted bad for how the slip is oriented. A lot of this "issue" simply comes because of the time of year with the low sun - only one month from winter solstice. Dog in the picture showed little concern for the solar panel output.

Wind picked up a little later for a really fine afternoon.. sailed 4 out of the last 5 days.

Got the mast pulled up today for the first time. :dancing:

The included gin pole worked really well. I did have to come up with my own baby stays, pole stays, and come-along however. I think a few things for the boat got lost in the shuffle over the several years the po let it sit. no biggie. once raised, I was able to level the boat and adjust the mast rake. this gives me the needed information to fabricate all new standing rigging. I ordered the tools and materials today to get that done. everything cost me about $230.00 , which I figured was about what it would cost me to have someone else make everything for me, but now I'll have the tools to make more when the time comes. ;)

Attempted to make a 4 day trip with a buddy. Left marina late and when we got to the bay it was dark with gusts above 30. Wasn't reefed so we turned and went back in. My buddy bailed so I went back Tuesday and sailed from Deltaville to Hampton. Anchored at Cape Charles and finished Wednesday afternoon.

Beautiful sunset!

Today I made a swim platform!
After much research I went with a side mounted swim platform. I made it with a broken teak table, some scrap aluminum, scrap garden hose, lots of rivets, and rope. Seems to hold my weight just fine (210lbs) can't wait to give it a try on the water

The guys should be here next thursday to put the new "boatport" up next to the carport. that will be nice. today was warm enough to venture out and make up a mast fork for the front. I was tired of the mast always wanting to slip off the side of the pulpit.

I guess I forgot to take photos of the finished project, but I also got all the other wood back on the boat after stripping off the peeling varathane, sanding the wood and multiple coats of teak oil. looks much better now, don't ya think. ;)
