The v berth will be 96 in. long. We actually laid down to get the right length. I am a bit tall at 6'4".
I am also getting close to glassing in the stringers bulkhead.

You have probably already thought about this but.... I've always wanted to lower the V-birth. In addition to mine being a bit too short, I can't roll over in it without my shoulders getting wedged between the deck ceiling and the v-birth. So I have to sleep flat on my back all night long... I usually end up sleeping in the cockpit rain or no rain.

If you did lower it that would also result in it being shorter unless you also moved it further aft.

Getting rid of our head on our S was the best single thing we did to the boat. The V-berth is longer now, all the way to the galley. We now also have room for a month's worth of cloths storage on the sides and head of the V-berth now. We have more room for storage under the V-berth extension (14 gallons of water, a second battery and room for a couple duffle bags and more). Also room for a month's worth of food storage opposite where the head use to be. Now we can also stand-up after doing our thing in the new head.

Maybe time for a new boat ;), we love the S :),

I am not THAT TALL but I have thought adding a 2x2 foot removable
extension to the to the port side.

Just a little something that would mount on pins and a hinged leg for support that could be removed and stored easy.

You could still get into the other side or head without problems.

What I am going to build are removable filler boards that will drop to a lower position to become seat bases. When they are removed, the area will be clear down to the floor. They will be around 16 x18 inches. I rremoved the quarter berths and made different stringers that will have storage hatches and flotation foam in the flat top side. Here is an old sketch, its not 100% accurate(doesnt have the stringers and the hatches). Also got the stringers in today as well as the bulkheads. BTW, take a look at our head sitting where the berth will be. A 3 gallon bucket with a toilet seat lid. Simple but it works and can double as a bucket. Makes a good seat for fiberglassing too.

fwiw, you can get free blocks of stryofoam from northern tool... they use it to ship their trailers.

That is great news, thanks Bill. Today I finished glassing in the bulkhead. Now have to go to work.

I've been away for a couple weeks, resumed work this week. I glassed in the bulkheads and the end caps. Today I got the V berth cut out. Soon enough I will install it. If you look at the boxes off to the sides, you will see where the storage hatches will be. I am going to put them on hinges that open up. The bed will go all the way to ends of those boxes. I will be making hatch cut outs large enough to put milk crates in.
I sailed with my brother this week on his new to him potter 19. Cool boat with lots of stealable ideas. I like the setup to raise and lower the rudder.

Finally looking like a boat. Used the Pettit barrier coat primer on top to get a good epoxy seal
That looks really nice!!

What is your time window
to top-coat that? Also what are you going to use over it? Will you spray it or roll and tip it?

I can't wait to see it done. Looks great now,

Thanks Sum, the window is about a week. If you don't paint it by then, you just have to sand. I will be top coating with a marine enamel from rustoleum . My method is rolling and tipping. I am so tired of sanding but glad I took my time. It looks amazing.

You will have a better than new boat when you are done. Truly! A new boat always has things that need to be fixed... and things that break... those have been done... and you have (or will have) fixed all of the things that are wrong with a used boat. In the end you will have a boat that looks new and has all of the shakedown issues also fixed.

I also can't wait to see the end product. Thanks for documenting and sharing.
