Only Child

That's the name my wife and I came up with for our 85 27'TR. We have no children, so instead of food-we fill her up with diesel. Instead of clothes-we cover her with sails. Instead of rocking her to sleep-we place her on a cradle for the winter. Instead video games-we buy her radio's,GPS & compass. Instead of room & board-we put her in a slip. "that's our only child"

Suidae sus Celebensis

Suidae sus Celebensis is Latin for the family of swine (pigs) in particular the "wild pig" of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Both of my sons are "cops" in Panama City and my wife would not let us name the boat "Wild Pigs". She said it was not very sailing vessel "style". Thus, we adapted and overcame. She didn't know the meaning of the name for over a year...by then it was too late.

The difficult part of following this thread...

..is that altogether too many of the names are starting to sound like motor boats..................................................and that's not cute :)

Nom de boat contest

Was on the water last week but think my boat's name may be of interest. Her name is "VuJa De'" It's an old George Carlin expression that my original partner insisted on. My first boat, a Victory, bough in less than pristine condition, I named "Eponine" after the little waif in "Les Misrables" that sang the haunting "All Alone". Bought for a song (Pun) she gave me six years of pleasure. Last I heard, she was headed for Lake Tahoe.

Serendipity

We just bought this 2000 H260 after having admired it for the last three years, hangingin a slip, seemingly never being sailed. The slip is located next to the parking lot of an Italian restaurant we frequented so we got lots of chances to admire it. The proprieter of the restaurant happened to be the same person who had purchased a resttaurant that was a joint venture for me and my brothers fifteen years prior. One day we were out admiring the boat when an older gentleman puled up in a pickup and began cleaning up the parking lot. We struck up a conversation and learned he was a retired physician who originally came from the area in which we lived some seventy miles away. He invited us to share time with him at his country place to fish, hunt, and relax at his country home. The boat came up and we discussed passingly the merits of owning such a fine boat and yet not sailing it. We continued our visit taling of various topics and learned his daughter owned the property occupied by the restaurant as well as the pier and slips and that her CPA owned the boat. We exchanged phone numbers and promises to visit when he came to the country. About three or four weeks later he called and identified the boat owner. We contacted him and offered to crew for the opportunity to sail on her with the suggestion that we were shopping for a larger boat to replace our Macgregor 21. To make a long story short, we sailed, the CPA saled, and now Serendipity stays wet.

Options

We named our H380 "Options" and, no, it wasn't bought with stock options. We named her "Options" because of the choices we have with this boat. We can live aboard, cruise, day sail, leave he in the lake, or move her to Houston/Galveston. We can do the Intra Coastal waterway or go down island in her. All in all, she represents lots of "options" for us. Fair winds, Steve & Linda S/V Options H380

agua viva

We bought our very first boat just last October and it was named "Seven D's" . We tried really hard to come up with an explanation but only got to about 4 D's that made sense. Since the wife's Brazilian we picked the Portuguese 'agua viva' which I translate into 'long live water' . Apparently it is also the nickname for an aggressive Brazilian man-o-war which comes in handy when we race her for the first time.... Greetings,Torsten

Named Her After An Old Girlfriend

My wife always accuses me of thinking about a former girlfriend. My former girlfriend's initials are CPV. So I named my boat Sea Pea V.(like the Roman numeral). So when my wife says I'm thinking about my girlfriend, I tell her no, I was thinking of my boat.

"Moondoggy"

I've been in a name quest for several weeks and this name was a compilation of some suggestions I thought of, Moon Shadow and Dog House, however moondoggy was given to the boat by some freinds, it seemed to fit,,,or so I'm told. Maybe moonpuppy?

Dream Quest

My wife and I had been casually looking for the right boat for quite some time and then we found exactly what we wanted on a fluke that we fell into. The name was Dream Quest, and it seemed so perfect to our situation that just we had to keep it. We love it and the boat! Rob

Worthless Crew

'Worthless Crew' was named after...well...it is pretty much self-explanitory! As skipper, I am always stepping over somebody lounging in the cockpit or on the foredeck. One day, I made the comment "man! you are certainly a worthless crew"...and the name stuck! Boat names are fun! Good sailing! Brad Alston s/v Worthless Crew 1972 C-22SK #1720

Zonnemaire

When we bought our Oday 37CC it had a terrible name. So we had to come up with a new one, which wasn't easy. There were so many and still we couldn't get the right one. Than suddenly the name Zonnemaire came up. Zonnemaire is a very little, but extremly beautifull village in the provence of Zeeland in Holland. After me and my wife met we had our first HOT weekend there. So there you go, we had so many good memories about this, that we gave our boat the name Zonnemaire. On top of that, you can translate this name also like, Sea of Sun. Which isn't bad either.
