This is how I handled the the cut away to repair or re-inforce stanchion base problems. Only a critical eye really notices or cares. I did not want to put new hull liner in, as most of mine is OK. Besides, I'm not keen on vinyl gas-off.

New bulkheads. Mahogany trimmed with white ash. Lower half edges were sealed against water intrusion with epoxy in 2" margin. Also done at chainplate attachment area. Forward bulkheads have a 6 coat varnish edge trim. That starboard foward bulkhead is cut lower on the horizontal edge, so now one can sit on the corner of the bunk. Cushions are original, somehow they escaped serious mouse damage.

Golden Road at mooring, Stonington Harbor August 22, 2013. The bottom was done in Pettit Vivid white. Yes its expensive, but I did 2 coats with just a half gallon. The topsides and cabin were all wet sanded heavily with progessively finer paper, compounded in 2 stages, then waxed. The blue boot top done twice over.

About 1/4" of horrible, poorly applied, bottom paint finally removed, as well as the cheap red tape boot stripe. At this point I knew I wanted a white bottom.

Changing the shear stripe was not really what I wanted to do. But a mold defect/repair from 35 years ago was rearing its head. On both aft corners a layer of micro-balloons and re-gel coating had shrunk and peeled up. I knew matching the hull color would be impossible, so I dropped down the shear stripe into a contemporary look and to better include the name. The paint was Pettit one part Urethane, sprayed; for sure the most vexing and frustrating part of the whole project, as wind, rain, humidity, heat wave conspired against me.

This is enough height to remove centerboard. Keel was stripped, sanded, and voids filled. Then it was coated with gray epoxy barrier because it had some water intrusion and blistering. Same with centerbd and rudder. The boat bottom was blister free, so I did not bother with epoxy. Many thanks to Don's Dock in Stonington who hauled me down, cradled and allowed me to work on my boat with water and electricity, and launched Golden Road.
