Thanks guys.
We had a side step today. With batteries that have not been charged, siting idle, they failed to hold enough charge to spin the starter at a speed to fire up the engine.

Postponed the splash till tomorrow 11AM. Put batteries on charger and hopefully they will have the gumption to start the engine tomorrow.

Yes I have a new cutlass bearing. Will give it some love tomorrow. All I hope to do is see the transmission engage/disengage. Limit the run time to under a minute.

I’ll post results tomorrow, but I think if you’re anywhere west of the continental divide you’ll likely hear a whooping joyful scream.

Could have sworn we heard a whoop and a splash from our home nearby. Thought for sure it was Hadley. We'll keep our ears perked.

I'll have my uber-sensitive listening gear on in hopes of hearing your whoops of joy.

Spray it with pb blaster. It will be ok. I’d be more concerned with the raw water pump . I’d remove it.
Aren’t cutlass bearings made of a rubber type material like engine shaft seals? Doesn’t PB Blaster attack seals?
At least I’ve read warnings about getting it near seals because it could.
Maybe just some soapy water would be safer.

I would prefer to use a solution of dish soap and water. It could be squirted down the vent tube in the PSS while hand turning the shaft to coat all surfaces.

BREAKING NEWS: EVERETT, WA
Thursday, June 29, 2023 12:15pm LOCAL NEWS. EVERETT
Reports of loud noises and splash wave have been reported in the area of the Port. Some have said there was a varoom sound that resembled a diesel engine revving. Then Whoop whoop whoopee shouting which followed a splash that washed across the marina. The police reported they were investigating but stated it is unlikely there will be much left to discover. We will report all developments as we hear more.
It was back on 19 March, 2022 while I was prepping to cruise around Vancouver Island that this adventure began. Now the engine and transmission have been removed from the boat, rebuilt, reinstalled and the magic smoke has been returned to SV Hadley.

The engine started, the transmission responded smoothly, the new prop shaft, Dripless shaft seal and cutlass bearing all performed as promised. Hadley showed that she is still a bit cranky. When I bought the boat in 2015 she ran a bit hot. I worked over the cooling system and her temperature slipped nicely into the normal range. Today she again ran hot on her maiden voyage.:yikes:

We will need to check out the raw water pump as it was leaking... There are several minor issues now listed on my before cruising punch list.

I'll be heading home for a few days. Mid July I'll be back to work the punch list, clean up after the work project. Then I can dress her with sails and do some sea trials in the Sound.

Oh a smooth running engine is a thing of beauty.

Most excellent news!

Very often boats will overheat after the cooling system has been opened up. I is common for the system to get an air bubble in a hose somewhere that reduces the coolant flow. I would start by checking the water heater exchanger loop for a bubble.

BREAKING NEWS: BEAUFORT, SC
By W.T Door
Friday, June 29 0654 LOCAL NEWS, BEAUFORT

A loud Woop Woop Woopee sound was heard along the waterfront near Beaufort, SC very early this morning. The source of the sound has not been identified as of yet but nearby witnesses reported that it sounded like an echo. No immediate explanation was provided. There is speculation that this sound originated in Everett, Washington yesterday evening. It is clear, however, that the sound was not a plea for help but rather some sort of celebration.
