I did notice that when John and I were out on Papillon getting ready for the Round Whidbey Race that he would develop a sort of twitch every time we would go to start the engine.

I do not need the twin screws and the huge wake... Just a little varoom, is all I ask, to get me out of the marina where I can hoist the sails.

Don't you know it.
Between my duties at home (home maintenance, watch the dog and cat while my wife heads off to visit with girlfriends from her grade school etc. ) and watching grandkids growing up and playing sports, scheduling in Sailing Time has been a challenge.

Thankfully I got a couple days in on Papillion plus a great race experience.

Today there are high expectations for good news.

If there is still a problem with low compression, I would try a few cc's of heavy gear oil in the bore before test firing the engine to boost compression. Once it gets running the rings will start to seat and the compression should increase.

John called me on his 2 hour trip to his boat.
He has the same problem I have for my Boat Restoration, Labor shortage.

His diesel mechanic flows to the new money.

So John is camping out there now.

Absolutely disgusting that craftsmen string customers along with every conceivable excuse. That mechanic has been dickering around with John's motor for months.

Every trade in the US is short on labor these days. If it is a trade where you get dirt under your fingernails, there is no one applying.

Update.

We tried to start the cantankerous engine. Bled the engine but when we cranked there were air leaks that bubbled out as we loosened the injector fuel lines.

Removed and replaced the fuel filter assembly, things improved. Still No start. Noticed fuel leak from the banjo fitting on the #1 cylinder HiPressure line. Just dribbles but also a potential air leak. Removed the fitting and the washer had 2 etched scratches across the face. Another possible air leak source. Back to the pump specialist to get replacement parts.

0830 Friday morning we go at it again.

John..Have a heart to heart talk with the mechanic. With ur engine, assuming proper assembly, it’s either fuel or compression. Perform compression test. Then perform a pressure test of whole low pressure fuel system. Bicycle pump works good. Fix leaks. If compression is low, remove injectors or flow plugs and pour some power punch or a thick oil into the cylinders replace and turn the key. IMHO…
