I have a S 2 11A and I have a leak could someone with boat call me DESPERATE. 805-864-0905 CA THANKS
I hope your S2 is still afloat. More info would be helpful, and maybe even those of us without an S2 can provide some advice.

Most importantly, if she is in danger of sinking, get her hauled out or emergency pumps going.

Let us know what is happening.

Good luck,

Greg

Had not been to boat in a wk. got here with 8 inch’s water in cabin. Got pumps and got all water out. Looked at obvious, no thru hulls leaking. Has not been grounded (?). Still a leak. Have isolated leak. At base of mast 6 inches below floor three is a 1inch pipe that is where water is coming from. Other end (?) is in small access port which as depth and speed sensors. They are not leaking. Put a bung in and leak still there. Somehow in the course of about 2 feet from pipe opening to forward of mast water is coming in somewhere. HELP!!!! 805-864-0905

Is it fresh water or salt water? A picture might be helpful. If it takes a week to get 8" it should be manageable. Where did you put a bung? What is the 1" pipe for? It sounds like it might be a limber hole, with the leak on the other side of it from where you're looking. Could the keelbolts be leaking? How old is this boat ?

Maybe check your keel to hull joint. I had to dive on my old O'Day when the keel bolts pulled through the hull. I ripped up a sock to stop the leak long enough to haul the boat.O'Day 23 sole replacement 011.jpg

She’s a 79. No keel bolts, fully encapsulated. Got some Splash Zone, never used it but I’ll try anything at this point.

I got myself one of those cheap digital inspection cameras / endoscopes from Amazon. The camera itself is about the diameter of a pencil and has ~ 15' of semi-flexible cable attached to it. You pair it with a laptop or a cell phone to view the footage. I must say it comes in really handy. I use it around the house to see behind, inside, or underneath things.

In the boat, it's great. Used it to snake up through the drain hole on my 1950's Sailfish, see into the nether regions of my '72 Catalina 22, etc. One of the better $15 I've spent on a cheap tool. You might consider something like that -- drain the water out, shove it in and see what you can see.

Encapsulated keels can leak too. Maybe HeadSail's advice is the best - haul her and see where the water comes out.
If the water is coming in then it has to be able to exit by the same path. Perhaps also use modeling clay to form dams if you need to keep the water in a particular area of the bilge for your troubleshooting.

Sailing friend likewise sounds like the encapsulated keel has been compromized and this a drain tube for just that. If I can’t stop water at least control it then head for a bailout. You guys have all been great, I can never thank you enough. I was prepared to tie myself to the mast and go down with the ship, except the Marina isn’t deep enough.

let us know once you haul out and what you find. Scary to find 8” of water in the boat for sure…

He has 2 threads going on this… Sounds like an encapsulated keel….maybe compromised. He was gone for a week or so and came back to find 8” of water in the boat. Unclear if that was I. The bilge or above the floorboards.

Sounds like he is going to haul her out and see what he can find.
