Just a little preview of things to come... and to poke a stick at the guys who love to varnish their exterior teak, lol!
I got a few of the parts I ordered from CD, the King Starboard plastic replacements for the all exterior wood... The rest are on back-order. Here are the sliding hatch rails sitting in place on the pop-top. I'm storing my parts that have the finished Brightsides gloss white in my guest bedroom to avoid damage while finishing the rest of the cabin and cockpit paint. Exact fit for the most part, no screws yet... The slot is exactly .275 inch. I had thickened the frail edges of the sliding hatch by the Stingy Sailor method with 4 pumps of epoxy, slightly thickened. I have to do some light sanding/planing to get a consistent thickness, they are a little fat just in the middle.

I have class this weekend, but my goal on Sunday is to get the second coat of paint finalized on the cabin top so I can finally set this baby back into place for good, hardware and all.

Just joined the forum. I've been reading this thread and very impressed with your ingenuity and determination. Recently traded my old atv for a 76 c22. Finding your insights most useful. Here's a couple of pics. It was half filled with water and covered with mold and mildew. Planning to start a thread on getting her ready to sail.

Stellar! --
we know what you'll be doing in retirement. CD's boatyard and Chandlery:
LOL... close, but not quite... I'll spend another two years in 'dry dock' just before I retire, building my wood/carbon composite 50 footer so I can disappear over the Pacific horizon with a girl half my age... (half my age + 7 yrs, that's an official rule BTW)

I mounted the new King Starboard Hatch Rails. I mounted the old teak rails first and put tape along each side to mark the footprint so I could be sure the new rails ended up in the right place.

Last night I laid the Kiwi Grip down on all the cabin top parts and the forward hatch. With the rails mounted I could put everything back together. I haven't put the butyl tape on to bed the rails yet, I'll get to that later when mounting most of the deck hardware. I did mount the hand rails and bed them, mark that done. All together looks pretty good.
I want to keep going and get the Kiwi Grip on the main decks tonight, but I have to stop work for the afternoon and write a paper that is due by 9pm. just when I was on a roll... The cockpit is almost done with its second coat, just a few more small sections I'll do after work this week.

So I had to stop and write my paper on Sunday, which I did get done on time. Now I want to finish the Non-skid on the main decks tonight, but its so freaking hot today! I barley used one quart off the top of the gallon of Kiwi Grip but I'm afraid it may have skinned over already.... not good. Hopefully its fine, I have it stored indoors in the shade, but then actually moved it to the kitchen which is air conditioned. Fingers crossed I didn't waste any, but I know I have more than I need.

Got to work on the decks as soon as I got home from work. 3 hours to mask all this off! I don't care if I ever see another roll of blue tape... but green is ok... I like the lime green tape.

3 hours taping and on 30 minutes rolling on the Kiwi Grip. Decks are done. Its still a toasty 80 degrees in my garage even after 11 pm, quite a heat wave we had in So Cal these last few days. This will cure nicely over night.

The thing to remember about Kiwi Grip is that it looks pretty rough and thick when you first roll it on, you might think almost too rough for your feet. But as it dries it actually shrinks, so the peaks get a little lower and tighten up, which opens the pattern a bit. When you roll it, a slow gentle roll will give more 'tread', while a faster roll will be lighter, more like sandpaper than non-skid. I decided early, after doing the top and hatches first, that the slower roll was better... The roller will fling little drops of kiwi grip on other surfaces if you go too fast. Not seen in the masking pic above, I used some 8 inch wide masking paper above the tape line to protect the cabin, although I did have an occasional spatter I had to wipe off. Since I was rolling indoors, even if it was hot, I still had a fair amount of time to pull off the making tape. It was more than 30 minutes before I pulled the tape after rolling both sides and the Kiwi Grip was still very liquid. If I had done this out in the sun I would probably have had much less time and only done one side at a time.

The joys of painting eh? 90% prep time 10% work time. Looks like you saved quite a bit of time using Kiwi in one step. Looks great.
