We just used Interlux Pre-Kote primer on the deck and hull above the water line. This past weekend painted the deck and hull using the roll and tip method unbelivable results, very happy with the paint. We had to paint in the driveway with no other options, were reallly lucky with the results. Two coats on the deck and two on the hull. As for sanding the primer we used 3M "180 grit" non loading sandpaper worked great. We used 320 sand paper between coats on the color for the deck and hull with great results.I am curious if anyone has tried wet sanding and what their experience has been and what their technique was?
Yes we still used the palm sander on the sanding of the primer. The sanding of the color between coats was done with the 320 by hand. Just enough to take off the gloss, the gloss did reapear when we wiped it down prior to next color coat. Love Intelux paint!George that looks awesome! So with the non loading sandpaper, were you still able to use your electric sanders? Really like the look of the dark hull.
The prime looks great! I was not considering priming in the cabin area but seeing what it looks like from your pictures I might add that too. I am going to paint the bilge as is it a bit rough with bilge paint as it waterproofs and is easier to clean etc. Your prime coat appears to be grey in the pictures? I have used the white and happy with the results.Heading back out to paint the boat today...
For what it's worth, we decided to go with Brightside paint for the finish coat. They no longer make Interthane Plus paint, so I didn't want to get partway through the project and not be able to match paint if we needed more.
