Good Old Boat

My best friend with a Bayfield 29 is moored right next door to the editors of Good Old Boat magazine. He gave me a couple of their magazines and now I'm hooked! If you could care less about sailboat racing and don't have $250,000 to spend on a new boat then this is the magazine for the rest of us sailors. It is the most practical sailing magazine I've ever seen! Save your money on the other high gloss magazines and get one you can really use..Good Old Boat!!!

Latts and Atts

This last August I went crusiers party put on by Bob Bitchin from Latts and Atts. There was live music from noon to 10 pm. Also he bought 5 kegs of beer. First time in 20 years where I had been at a party and the cops came. It was 2pm and someone didn't like the music. The radio someone was playing on the beach was louder. No one from any of the other national mags has ever come up and put on a party for the boaters in Wa.

Latts and Atts

The most practical every day magazine out there in my opinion....Fun to read cover to cover..... as my wife would put it, " a real burly sailing magazine"

L & A/GOB

It has to be a toss up. Just like a lot of people I read Latts and Atts for the stories and fun. I first met Bob almost 20 years ago and every time I see him he makes me laugh and think at the same time Good Old Boat has got to be hands down the best for the rest of us when it comes to the how to and the folks there are really great and helpful

Latitude 38

Latitude 38, hands down. It can't be beat for Northern California sailors. I also subscribe to Sail and Cruising World and buy Wooden Boat on occassion to satisfy my more aesthetic nature. I find that Sail and Cruising World get a little repetitive.

Within a few Hours it's read with interest

My favorite boating magazine is "Pacific Yachting"boating in British Columbia. It's well written and read by many, even all the way down to San Diego and across the country. You will never get a better magazine on Racing, repairing, sailing pictures and stories All about new boats Power & Sail and boats for sale. It's a first class magazine. Fred Scott

Good Grief

I read or subscribe to Cruising World, Sail, Latitude 48, Practical Sailer, Boaters World (always looking for new boats) and so on. Each publication has its place. Some present us with dreams we may never realize. All give us tips that may or may not apply to the boat we sail. A few of them (especially Cruising World and Sail) are a bit like Better Homes and Gardens. BHG often portrays a home that's well beyond the financial reach of most of us. Still, most of the time there's something to learn. Just like BHG, we may not be able to plunk down several hundred grand to remodel a dilapeted bunglow. Nevertheless, we still pick up design tricks, modifications and so on to improve whatever boats we own. So, each of these publications offers us insights that help us improve our boats and our sailing skills. You've just addressed magazines. How about books? It's all about looking for resources, improving our boats and increasing our skills.

GOB probably gets the nod

It'd probably have to be Good Old Boat. I love nosing around in old boats, and my wife and I are on our fourth fixer-upper. But even though I'll never buy a new boat, Sail is still a fun read too. I figure it's a good way to stay researched for when I can actually afford a 2003 model year boat (probably some time around 2023) L & A is great too, one day I hope to make it to one of those parties!! And don't forget Soundings. I know it's not all sailing, but the classifieds and new products are great. -M

The subscription I have had the longest is GAM a Toronto mag. Sail and GOB are favourites. I use to subscribe to Cruising World but when my subscription ran out, they didn't try to get me to subscribe again. I use to get Sailing but after paying a years subscription, they sent me dunning letters to say I hadn't paid. Even after sending them copies of my receipt they insisted I hadn't paid. Finally I went to the person that sold me the subscription and they straightened the proplem out with Sailing. Sailing were extremely nasty and so their magazine will never come to my mailbox ever again.

Southwinds

Southwinds is a great southeast publication that's free. I look for it in the boat store every month. Funny, informative, good regional cruising stories and guides. We also enjoy Sail, Cruising World, Sailing, and Lattitudes & Attitudes.
