Practical Sailor

I guess working on and upgrading my boat is one main sailing activity, and this mag has good equipment test reports.

Monthly fixes

I need my monthly fix of Cruising World, then Lats & Atts followed by Practical Sailor and Pacific Yachting. Crusising World and Practical Sailor are the only ones I subcrib to, the others I buy at the news stand.

Lats&Atts-

Lats&Atts is just more fun. I like all of them, but look forward to Lats & Atts most.

Another vote for Sail and Practical Sailor

For reading pleasure I also pick Sail. I trust Practical Sailor for all my buying decisions. And for leaving the "real world" for awhile Lattitudes & Attitudes is my escape route.

Good Old Boat

I am a relatively new sailboat owner, although I have been sailing for about 10 years. I really enjoy Good Old Boat for the reviews of smaller boats and the how tos.

Good old boat by a mile

Good Old Boat is really a "magazine for the rest of us". Great articles by the "heroes" of boating and boat building, plus some great and useful tips for keeping your "good old boat" in bristol condition.

It's Apples or Oranges

How do you choose? When I want to read funny stories, then it's Lats & Atts; adventure stories, it's Cruising World; good sailing tips, it's Sail; local stuff, it's Soundings; sound advice, it's Practical Sailor. We read them all and love them all.

Lats and Atts

After I first read this magazine, I had to get a subsription! It exactly what a cruising mag should be. Brian

Sailing World, but...

...all of them have WAY TOO MUCH advertising and not enough 'meat and potatoes' articles that would address many of the questions that come up just on this website alone.

Favorite Publication

No contest, it's "Boats and Harbors", a commercially oriented trade paper, full of ads for all sorts of offbeat stuff some great prices, mostly larger quantities. If you've ever thought of buying a tug for conversion to a yacht, or an ex military fast patrol boat, this is the place to look!

Lats & Atts -- No Question

Hey, Nick! You only found three "kewls" in the L and A you read? Bitchin musta been slippin' that issue! I've never been big on sailing mags, but Cruising World was my favorite. Then Bob went to the Chicago Boat show several years ago, met Bob and Jody, took one look at the magazine and told them, "Chris will subscribe to this in a heartbeat!" He was right -- one look and I was hooked! Still like Cruising World, but it's slipped to a distant second. Recently subscribed to Blue Water Sailing -- not impressed yet, but will give it a chance. See you on the water -- or on the "Boat People" page! Chris Bloor & Bob Sheppard S/V Great Escape III C-42 #372

Cruising World - Never Again

I was a subscriber to Cruising World for many years. I decided I would try some other publications so I allowed my Cruising World subscription to expire. Well to make along story short, they continue to try to bill me after the subscription expired even going so low has to turn it over to a collection agency (at least that’s what the letters said, etc. may have been a Cruising World marketing tactic). Well I called them and they assured me all was well and the letters would stop. Well two months latter I receive a copy of Cruising World (not requested) which was followed by more bills and collection letters. At this point I’m ignoring their letters, etc. and they’ve lost a customer for life. I think there whole collection agency is a scam and is a tactic to scare people into paying for something they didn’t request. I continue to subscribe to Sail and also Sea which is a good magazine for west coast boaters.

Multiple

Good Old Boat is fast becoming my favorite for it has articles and features on classic style boats which I like. It also seems less commerial and devotes time to crusing vs racing. Small Craft Advisor is also nice as it gives good practical maintenance tips plus talks about different "crusing" grounds nearer to home. I occasionally read Sail and Sailing if they have an article about smaller boats (under 30') or some interesting crusing locations. Sailing is also great for the classified ads when I am searching for new boats. Crusiing World I only pick up when they have their features on trailer or pocket sailers.
