Small Craft Advisor

Small Craft Advisor published in Morro Bay California is about the only magazine that addresses the interests of those of us who sail small trailer sailboats... I've sailed my West Wight Potter 15 for eighteen years...such little boats seldom if ever get coverage in the large glossy boating magazines. SCA has recently expanded their format and it is really a handsome and useful publication for those who sail boats 22ft and under..

Hand, reef, and steer is my motto

I subscribe to Sail, but my favorite is Good Old Boat (I wish they would publish every month)followed by practical sailor, and finally 48 north. Having an old boat, some days shes good, others just tolerable, and a small pocketbook, I'd be looking for the how-to stuff even if I didn't enjoy it as much as I do. My magazine subscribtions mirro my sailing library: Riggers Apprentice, Sailmakers Apprentice, Boat data book, Skene's Elements of Yacht Design, This old Boat, Fiber glass repair and Hull painting, Projects to improve your boat...you get the picture. I enjoy the glossy, fluffy sailing mags, but I don't subscribe.

Kewl . . .

I read Latitudes and Attitudes for awhile but just couldn't shake the feeling old biker Bob was trying to re-create Easy Rider Magazine for the sailing set. I stopped reading it after Bob used the word, "Kewl," three times in one issue . . . Nick

What mag is best?

Latts and Atts - helps me dream the dream until I can live the dream. Latts and Atts for the past 3 years.

Hands on approach

We've narrowed our magazines down to Cruising World, 48 North and Good Old Boat. Because we own a good old boat (1977 O'Day 32-footer) we enjoy the articles in Good Old Boat. Because we live in the Northwest, we enjoy the articles in 48 North. And because we enjoy cruising, we enjoy Cruising World.

Latitudes & Attitudes!

Latitutes & Attitudes is the best by far for me. Lots of interesting articles and information. I also get Sail and Sailing but don't find as much good stuff in either... If I could only have one it would be Lats and Atts!

Lattitudes & Attitudes

Just as much information, and a lot more fun !!

Good old Boat

GOOD OLD BOAT provides so much in small package and is relevant to many more of us. CRUISING WORLD is close second.

The Good Old Boat

This magazine is pricier I know. More so than some of the other magazines available. BUT, I have come onto some very good articles in the few issues that I have read that really help me to become more knowledgable about my boat. How to better take care of it and even a lot of tips on how to sail safer. Keep up the good work guys. I just started a 3 year subscription and looking forward to my next issue. Lots of good reading.

My picks...........

I get "Sailing", "Sail" and pick up "Practical Boat Owner", a British publication. "Sailing" is beautiful in format, I'm dropping "Sail" as there's never much in it and "Practical Boat Owner" has the most content of any boating publication I've seen and leans more towards sail than power.

Serious Info

I like the spontaneous rigmeister for complete information on any variety of boating subject.

Cruising World--Tops

Guess I have subscribed to most all of them over the years. Best of the bunch for a non-racer is Cruising World. This mag has plenty of pertinent info. Been getting that rag for nigh on 20 years. The only other rag I get is Lats and Atts to which I have subscribed since day one. Fun rag to peruse with little useful info and plenty of grammatical errors(a pet peave). Looks like we'll be following Bob and Jody down the trawler path and I'll be left with one subscription

GOOD OLD BOAT

Guess I am still new. Anybody tell me how to subscribe to Good Old Boat ?

good old boat

I prefer Good Old Boat for useful information on how to projects and other sailors experience. The internet magazine Great Lakes Cruiser is great for local stories and information. I am addicted to Lattitudes and Attitudes for far away cruising and the interesting articles

Irreverent is best

Latts and Atts is my favorite because it is a little more irreverent and fun. It is tending to get more polished, which makes it more like the others. I love TOm Neale's column in cruising world, but that is going away.

Sailing World

I prefer Sailing World. It has more trim and tactics articles to which I can relate, plus more race specific information (which is what I do with my Capri 22), particularly "the Rules."
