I recently purchased an elderly (1973) O'day 23 . She's in pretty good shape, but I would like to replace the original O'Day emblems on the cabin sides. They are pretty rough looking and broken in spots. D & R doesn't have any more of them. Does anyone have a source for these-either original or reproduction. They won't make either me or the boat a better sailor, but I'm trying to make her look as good as I can nonetheless. Thanks.:)

I need them for my 1987 O'day 35 too. In the interim, because the emblems look so shabby, I just plan to leave them off. I will pot the holes, and leave them empty.

Hang in there awhile. I'm not that far yet, but I will be casting some in the near future to replace one of the broken ones on YOT. See also bigger boats, "And so it begins" for some info on casting from molds.

I couldn't find any original. I was able to salvage and repaint mine, but one is broken in the edge. Let me know how the casting goes!

You guys may have to opt for Vinyl O'Day decals. I have two of them that a friend of mine sent me which have black lettering. My topsides being a dark blue are the wrong color scheme for these decals. You can have these made up by any outfit that does Vinyl boat lettering. This is what they look like. Feel free to download them.

Will do Keith. I will be blanking the 27 on mine so you can take it to an engraver for the 26. Should have something in about a week once I determine a good casting material.

Here we go Kieth. If this works we may have a way to make them as long as someone has an original. I'll be blanking the 27 later today and recasting some without the length designation. I'm using West epoxy with a white coloring agent and of course the craft dough as it imprints like a dream. Soon as I have yours I'll PM you for the address. Enjoy the photo. My best, Joe

OK salty dogs. Here are some prototype photos of the emblem progress. Now that I have made the mistakes I am now casting for real. I switched to an acrylic medium as it is far mor flexible than the epoxy. It also offers the ability to layer the colors and add additional detail. I will be looking to borrow original emblems to use as mold patterns in the near future. That should eliminate the need for engraving the length if I can get the different model lengths. Even busted emblems with all the pieces are satisfactory. Keeping it original since 2010, Joe

Here's what I had made for my boat which has a blue boot stripe and the link of the company who made them for me for less than 40 dollars

I kind of like them, myself Rad. If I didn't have the original emblems on my boat, I'd have some made up of Vinyl and put them on myself. I think they look great!

Coming from you Joe that is quite a compliment and I thank you. Keep up the great info with Trinkka. You have provided many Oday owners with a wealth of information and inspiration, myself included.

Aaahhh plegm. These emblems are proving to be quite the challenge. While I have the casting media and catalyst figuered out fairly well the mold has proven to be something of a headache. Since I have 2 gallons of RTV Urethane I had planned on for another use on hand, it is time to get serious. If this refuses to work to my satisfaction I'll look at latex molds. So a set of these will head out to a couple of folks for an honest critique. This is now a quest and my OCD is in overdrive. I want a really great set for YOT also and nobody will have a substandard product by the time I am done. And Fuzzy Joe of Trinkka you will be getting the first cyrstal clear set just because. I'll be Bach, you can be Mozart or Chopin or Vivaldi or ....

Thanks.....when I bought the boat eight years ago you could see that there was an Oday name on the rear quarter and I was just going to let it be but every season once or twice I'm asked what brand boat is that so I copied a picture and shot it off to the folks who made the transom lettering and told them I had a blue surface and the first draft had the blue flag and that won't work so the red flag should look fine.
I totally forgot I had these made and didn't apply them over the summer so this spring they will get installed
