I noticed the flat stanchion base in which the stanchion sits is a bit wobbly and there are what looks like stress cracks around it. It's been there since I bought the boat and I suspect someone has tried to push the boat off while grabbing the stanchion. It's located on the starboard side, and just behind the plate where the shrowds attach at the deck. I've been looking inside and all I see is a type of semi-rigid material that fills the space between the hull and the plywood panel that runs under the deck. Can this material be pulled back without damaging it, and if so does this provide access to the stanchion from inside the boat?
I can't see any info in the owner's handbook about this.
