Check the OUTDOOR shower head. If it leaks it flows into the bilge, took us two days to find it. Someone had left the water on and the shower head valve gave up. It's a quick fix, buy new head at worst, turn off water at best.

Not sure if the issues are slowing down or if I'm just getting more handy.

Although, My yanmar is going into service for its second oil leak. It's also having problems attaining max rpm, I'm only getting about 2500 at the most. Checked prop and hull, was cleaned this week, all is clear. Must be related to my previous issues.

I also have an issue with my bilge running randomly and staying on while dry for long periods of time, I'm thinking of replacing it.

All else seems to be able to get fixed while on the go.

Rule Mate Bilge Pump?

I recently replaced my bilge pump with a new one on my 2004 H33.

The difference between the old Rule-Mate pump and the new one is a mechanical float vs. electronic water level sensor. The new one will turn on when the water level rises but will not turn off, unless you lift it out of the bilge.

I am returning it for a new one, but that is the symptom.

The new style pump has a place on its back side that you touch to test, when I do that, it turns on but will not turn off.

My theory is the sensor is too sensitive, and because the pump cannot pump the bilge absolutely dry it does not shut off, due to residual water sprayed from the spinning impeller.

GreggL, since reading your post I note a lot of complaints with the new Rule Mate that incorporates the solid state switch. A innovative concept that doesn't seem to work worth poo. Did you replace the pump with a classic and separate pump and switch.

Also what was the outcome of your Yanmar low max rev problem?

Have not yet replaced the bilge. That will most likely be an off season project. As of now it's working decently and I have redundancies.

Then yanmar issue is still being looked at. There is another oil leak as well as control panel fogging. Not sure if it's all interconnected but the service dept is doing their best.

It's getting ridiculous though..

Just an update with some issues I've been facing. My second oil leak seems to be coming from a crack in the sail drive housing unit. ZF is currently looking into the problem.

Thanks, but they're not. It is unfortunate, but the other manufacturers are doing what they can.
Hunter should do something, but I can't force them.

Can someone please tell me that I'm crazy. I've known boats always have issues and know there is a break in period, but are my problems here normal?

I'm debating getting out of the game and keeping my sanity..

I can't imagine ever doing this again and surely don't trust the manufacturers to make things right.

Thoughts or advice please...

Thanks!

Greg, did you ever determine if Marlow-Hunter intends to honor the remaining factory warranties of boats sold before they took over?

Gregg,

I really think you have a unique set of situations, multiplied by having a poor dealer who is providing you no help.

Repeated oil leaks are far beyond the norm. Far, far, far beyond... Given that, one can "almost" understand the dealer's reluctance to fix what could be a faulty product (i.e., the Saildrive) which came from the factory. All the suggestions to list the problems (you've done that) and try to get the dealer and the factory to work together (you've done that also) have been to little avail.

The mainsail furling issue was a dealer issue and, in retrospect, a pretty simple thing to resolve.

Most of the "new boat" experiences I have heard on our boats (C34) have been simple: altogether too many hose clamps weren't tightened properly. While many owners went back to the dealers about this, my suggestion was to go tighten every one, every single one. Why? 'Cuz the skippers would learn more about their own new boats that way.

Your problems are far beyond that kind of thing.

Again sorry to hear about your travails, but I'm sure if you stay with it and get them fixed, you'll love your new boat -- seems a lot of others have.

Good luck, please keep us posted. "Don't give up the ship!" ;)

fairly normal on a new boat....My 1999 experience mirrors yours quite a bit, a Beneteau though and the dealer went bankrupt or was purchased by an Annapolis dealer, was never sure nor was I provided any details. Just left with a newly delivered boat, a large punch list and some electronics to be installed.

Just that my boat no longer existed in any ones to do list, take care of list, just may be that this idiot will buy another NEW boat, dealer list, BUT mine...

I tried buying a new boat in 2004 and presented my "surveyor clause" in the purchase contract. That clause was denied, by more than one dealer and more than one builder....I gave up and bought a used boat, and then traded that one and bought another, and again and again and have sold the last one and looking for a specific USED boat for next year to retire on.

Until the builder and his dealer will allow me to have a survey done on the new boat and they agree to fix//repair/reimburse for repair those items this surveyor finds, I will buy used and do it myself.

Given that they will not stand behind their product, I will never buy another NEW boat.

You and I should never have to go through the finger pointing and in fighting and non-responsive actions that you are going through.

I empathize with you and for the life of me don't understand why the builder or dealer does not perform....I, and likely you, would have been a customer for life, if they did...and tell everyone about it.

best of luck....if you want specifics - email me or PM

Given the location of my residence, I have no idea if this has any teeth or not. But, I thought I would throw it out here anyway.

Thanks. Yea actually looked into that. Seems because of the numerous problems and manufacturers involved I can't tie them together and declare mine a lemon.

Wow, I was at the Annapolis Show yesterday and got on the e-33 for the first time. My wife and I thought we found our next boat (currently sailing a 1988 27' Catalina). Please tell me most of you are happy because we loved it!

Balbany, there are at least 3 sailing magazines that have reviewed the Hunter e33 over the past 6 months. All are favourable. This is in conjunction with the Cruising World best compact cruiser 2012, 30 to 35 feet.

http://www.cruisingworld.com/sailbo...-boat-of-the-year-a-classy-class-of-new-boats

Send me an email and I will do my best to get you the 3 magazine articles.

In short, I believe you can't go wrong with the e33. Others will take a different position.

Thanks Hello Below, I just wanted to hear from real people. I'm not deterred from buying, and from what I've learned since I got into this, is that there are some folks who just don't like Hunters. I've chartered a few and really like them. I'll charter an e-33 Before I consider buying. Fair winds.

We are very happy with our e33. But there will be issues so take care in selecting your dealer if choices are available.
