A few from last week. We have been living on the Oday 25 for the last two months in Carrabelle. We spend a lot of time exploring beaches on islands and fishing.

A daily job is getting the salty dog on shore.

20 miles offshore I thought I had a Wahoo as it lifted the trolling lure right out of the water. Watching a 4 foot fish flip through the air gets you going. He the went on a run and again hopped in the air. I was a bit dissappointed it was a baracuda.

My son absolutely loves being on the boat. totally relaxed under full sail 20 miles out.

Do u stay on the boat for the whole time or do u come to the marina? I want to get my girl down there. We r going again to Tyndall this week to visit my son. Im going to find out what it cost to get a slip or dry dock, and if they have any slots I'm a little tired of the little lake we r on. Just back and forth sailing in warm muddy water. I spend just about every weekend there if I'm off but dang its hot, humid, and the water is just not very clean. We r ready to get salty!
I am reading " good old boat" magazine, back articles, Cap'n Fatty's books, and looking at yacht world all the time. Lynn says I'm obsessed.

I am sorry that I have not responded sooner. We are up in north Georgia near LaGrange. Trying to escape the heat. We were keeping it on the trailer for $120 a month and then putting it in the water when came down and staying on anchor. Once we got to June it made more sense to rent a slip for $295 a month and have AC all the time. Electric is included in the price. We have lived aboard for most of the summer,

We r at Tyndall AFB this week. I joined the marina yacht club and am on a waiting list for a slip. Approx six months they say. It is 4.50 a foot, and the monthly club dues are only six dollars. And get this, beer is 2.00 a piece, there is a great modern club house, bar and restaurant overlooking the harbor, and free seafood buffet and oysters every last Friday! I took some pix but do not have anyway to download them to my computer here

Hey Dave!
Nice fish!
Thanks, it was a lot of fun to bring to the boat. It helps that Ivy knows how to work the boat back to the fish without going directly to the line. She also watches the line and if it looks slack, she adjust the angle away further.
I love to sail, but it is a special treat when that line goes out while trolling.

Wow! I am quite envious of that deal! We will be down this week for about 4 days or so to Carrabelle. We are only a week away from being back to school. With your boat down there we will have to find a time to be in the same waters with our boats. There is a lot of great places between our two ports for a meet up. Destin has some of the greatest fishing on the Panhandle with shore in sight. Destin waters are the closest from shore you can get to the shelf drop off in Florida. You can hit Mahi Mahi not far from shore.

Exciting news!

Great Lake Sailors will appreciate this...

http://youtu.be/YG2rSOVMHpg

At 4pm today it was kinda calm, at 6 when I got there, this is what I got...

There is another short clip before this one that interesting, another sailboat coming into the marina a few minutes later. Looks like the Captain gave a few WTF's after about a minute into the video. Check out his boom while he's surfling through the cut in between the rocks.

http://youtu.be/FCZG7TrAmNc

I went down there around 8pm and it was pretty calm again....

High winds were 40mph at around 6pm, at one point there were white-caps in the marina.....no joke!

An odd day for mid July in the 90 degree range.

Sometimes it gets kinda crazy out there, I've been out there a few times like that (motor on) and in quickly. There is really no pattern, just a churning mess.
Think of 5 footers with a 5ft swell in between, the waves literally run over the tops of each other. In the first vid, out in the distance you can see a freighter. Not that the weather was super extreme... odd seas like that can cause freighters crack in half, if not loaded properly.
I do have to say, the StarLyte sometimes really takes a beating and holds up well! She's a great little boat!
Just for a perspective..."each" of those limestone blocks that make up the breakwall measure about 8'-12' long and square.

I've been all over Lake Erie Kevin, and the worst has got to be at the west end of the lake where it's very shallow. The lake kicks up in a heart beat and it's just like you described with waves spilling over one another. One time we were working in Sandusky and we had a 24' monarch tri-hull with twin 90's on it. We had to pull up to a cell wall at a light to pick up some of our survey gear before we came in out of the storm. I was able to get up on the wall okay and get the equipment, but getting back into the boat almost did me in. My legs sliped off the edge of the deck just as a good size roller broadsided us. I was just able to pull them back aboard before we were slammed into the wall. It probably would have taken both legs off. It destroyed the 3" thick rubber gunwhale bumper on the boat along with a good size dent.

I've had some dangerous moments. Everyone I know who sails the great lakes has.
It was funny when I did an 18 month stint in New Orleans. (of course, they think the great lakes are the eq. to lake pontchartrain).
It got windy and we had to turn back...I would call it a breeze.....
After being in the Navy and checking out - tons of neat sailing places, I still think it takes a lot of balls to sail the lakes.

Nice sail last night. Winds were a little light, but once the powerboats leave the lake is so smooth you can glide along with almost none at all.
