50 degrees in Milwaukee

Nothing like being on the warm side of the front. Of course, the water is still frozen and the boat is still winterized, but there is hope.

Happy New Year!

These are not O'Day pictures, but I thought fellow sailboat owners enjoy them. My 10 year old son likes to draw boats and he's formed his own yacht building company :). He has a form of autism, and if you're familiar with that, you may have heard of Temple Grandin, who is pretty famous. She explains how people on the autism spectrum are able to focus on details far better than people with "typical" brains. My son has notebooks full of these, many complete with specs. I do this not to call attention to him, but to share a particular gift he has, as an exceptional kid.

I posted one earlier in this thread, too.

That's amazing! I don't know of any kids his age who can draw as well as he can. Great work!

The cover is off !!!!
Alright!!! I took my cover off about three weeks ago and repaired two leaks in the cabin. Now I'm waiting for some warmer weather so I can spot paint the bottom of the keel and the centerboard. Then I'll load her on the trailer and start putting her back together.

My first keeper Striper of the season. These pics were taken out on Mount Hope bay near the Spar Islands. We spent the night anchored on the North side of the island. In the morning I brought Penny over in the kayak and also took my pole with me. I fished the rocky South side of the island and got a strike on my popper on the first cast and miss him. Then I got lucky and caught this 31" Striper on the second cast. I got to try out my whisker pole on the way back.

Hey Joe, bet that was good eating. I've never been much of a fisherman but my wife, being from the Miami area, loves it!
Here is a picture taken last weekend from the stern of a friends boat. After a dead even run for most of the morning, I was able gaining on him quickly shortly after the wind died down. Reason:I had a light air gennie to hoist when the wind dropped, and he did not..I did a circle around him just to rub it in! My Girl seems to like the wind off the quarter with that gennie, the main sheeted in, and the centerboard UP.

Keith,
That fish was absolutely delicious! In fact, Penny and I are getting ready to head out the door to hop on the boat for a two day cruise to the Bristol RI area with a stop over at those islands for another try at a Striper. I'm bringing along some of that left over Striper fillet for my supper tonight on the boat.
My Girl looks great and I envy that Bimini top. I'm still using a polytarp supported by a boat hook, for a Bimini.
If you haven't got one yet, you should pick up a whisker pole. My friend Del gave me one that was on his Hunter 27 and boy you can't imagine the down wind performance I'm getting in light winds.
Smooth Sailing!
Joe

Re: Our Frozen Lighthouse! Burrrrrrrrr!!!

Hi Kevin,
Back in the 70's & 80's, when I worked for the USACE, I loved to hang out at the west light and have my lunch. Quite often I was joined by hungry gulls.

Nice fish Joe!
I wish I could catch more of them Pete. We took a cruise to Bristol RI yesterday and spent the night in a nice little cove on Prudence Island. The sailing was beautiful yesterday. I stopped at that island and tried fishing near the rocks again but nothing doing.
It wasn't too good on the way back today though. We just got back a couple of hours ago. It was rainy, rough, and gusty and I'm glad to be back.
