There is no way to get to the bottom nut without drilling the locker. I pulled the fwd wood trim in the v-berth and drilled a 4”
hole behind it (trim is sturdy enough to cover no problem). I found a bunch of pooled fiberglass resin that would need to be ground out. Even if I went that direction I’m confident I still couldn’t get to the bottom nut. It’s approximately 3” from the bottom of the locker. The way I ended up doing it is the best option for getting the bow eye secure and not losing your mind/patience in the process!!
I am doing this job on my new to me 86 Cat 22, before I put it in the water. The block has rotted on the bottom and bottom nut and washers have actually fallen off.
Thanks for posting this. It is the best info I have found, but I have a few questions since I really cant find anyone else posting on this and CatDirect tech support was not helpful.

1. How did you get the old block out? I assume it is sealed somehow.
2. Did you have to remove any epoxy or pooled fiberglass to get the new block in?
3. Did you have to mold/sand the new plastic block to fit your hull?
4. Did you use some sort of epoxy to seal the block to the inside of the hull? If so, which one?
5. How did you drill the new holes? Did you drill from the existing holes in the hull from the outside after sealing the block to the hull?
