Lemme see about the labor. Hmmm do the bionic shoulders I got 10 years ago count? It is certain if they weren't repaired then, I would need them done now with all the sanding. That would add another 65,000 to the cost. At that rate I could have bought a new boat but I don't think my health insurance carrier would consider it preventive medicine.

A long time ago before wives and kids I restored a 36 ft Chris Craft Constellation that was almost ready for the dump and the amount of hours that got put into that project when not working to make a living was incredible but when it was done and when I pulled into a marina and watched the heads turn was the best feeling in the world......would I do it again.......Hmmmm

Don't worry about boredom...

My friend bought a new 2007 Jeanneau DS 39...and still had plenty of projects to keep him busy afterwards.

I got my mast back, and it's pretty, nah, nah, nah, boo, boo. I'm so excited, I'm going to pee myself. (In sing song voice for the full effect) Great job Tommy and Matt at Charleston Spar.

OK RubyJean, here you go. Note the new Lewmar Ocean #6s. While not a true Oday item the mastlight is a combo steaming/deck light from SBO and made by Forespar. I did have to cut a 1/4 X 5 X 5 inch piece of PVC and use the heat gun to form the mast shape off the mast to get the light to mount. there is a 1 X 3 inch slot cut for the wires to seat in. The light didn't seem to fit the Rig Rite #8 mast very well. Now all there is to do is wait to launch.

Looking pretty nice.. I see your fighting the snow too.....The new mast paint looks awesome... Now it has to warm up enough to splash, you must be getting very excited.. I'm starting to rebuild my galley and head, new wood, had a little rot there. Will be replacing the right side bulkhead as well, it's pretty loose..Then paint when the weather breaks, boat is inside a warehouse, but is hard to heat as it's a large space.. Michael..

I am amazed at what the powdercoating did. Those folks at Charlston Spar really came through for me. I am in a knot waiting for the weather to get right. I am hoping for mid to late April to get her in.

It'll be June before I'll be in the water, I'm at 4200' here and winter hangs on till may. Congrats on getting in the water soon.. Any plans on where you may cruise?
Getting off the Oregon coast before late June is tough at best. Pacific is not very forgiving early in the season. The last time Isailed south was 2010 and couldn't leave till July 27, very cold year all the way to So. Calif.. I'm thinking about trucking to the east coast, would like to sail the Carib. before I die... Michael..

So hows about an update 25 going on 27? With one week to launch day I have icicles hanging from my new lifelines. Yes, one week from tomorrow the s/v YOT will be moving to be rigged and launched. All preparations are made and then more soon we gonna see if 25 is a fabulous restorer of fine sailing craft or the ultimate hack. Stand by me hearties. :bang:

If it's not too much trouble, I think you should provide a live feed of the event. :)

Twas the night before splashtime

Twas the night before splashtime and all through the boat,
Every creature was hoping it might really float.
The lifelines were hung on the stantions with care,
In hopes that our Joe would not fall through the air.

The gelcoat was finished as smooth as a glass
While raindrops fell softly and beaded in mass.
And Mamma in her Slicker and Joe with a buffer
Had just finished up with a smile for each other.

When out on the drive arose such a clatter,
Joe banged his head and fell off the ladder.
Getting up off the ground Joe arose to the air,
Split open his pants and his neighbors did stare.

Joe's Moon in the light of the just melting snow,
Gave a luster not even his non-skid could show.

When , what to Joe's wondering eyes should apprear,
But a 20 ton crane backing, a truck in the rear.

With a little old driver, so livey and quick,
Joe knew in a moment it was not just a trick.
More rapid than eagles his courses they came,
and asked was it YOT Joe had given it's name?

Now up on the trailer and tuck in the Mast,
don't forget the rigging, just place it on last.
To the end of the driveway and out past the lawn,
Get the boat loaded and moving before it is dawn.

At the launch ramp Joe waited for the truck to arrive
feeling proud as a peacock and brimming with pride.

The Crane lifting, tugging and stretching it's cable,
Joe was not so sure that the crane was all able.
The boat hit the water and so all could see,
The boat was as pretty as any could be.

Joes, not chubby or plump but a right jolly elf,
He laughs at my jokes and even himself.
A wink from the rigger and a nod of the head,
Gave Joe a good feeling he had nothing to Dread.

Joe spoke not a word, but went straight to work,
he filled all the tankage, then turned with a jerk.
Laying his finger aside of this Nose,
And giving a nod, up the Mast he Rose.

He sprang to his Helm, to his crew gave a whistle,
And away they all sailed like a one-design Thistle.
But I heard him Exclaim, 'ere he sailed out of sight,
Thirty seven years later, it's better, IT'S RIGHT!!

Happy sailing Joe

Thanks Todd and thank you all. Well she didn't go kerplunk but is at her winter home. The hauler was delayed and the hurricane is upon us. The marina crew isn't working tomorrow so I will get all the rigging on the mast and tend to some minor details. Soon as the blizzard is over up goes the stick and kerplunk she goes. Least aways the anxiety of the move is over so the rest should be cake. Oh yeah, the yard crew said it looks like a new boat. Gloat, gloat.

Joe,
What happened? Did she float? We haven't heard from you so just wondering if we should send out a search and rescue team? Let us know when you get this message.

Today is the day jibes. Launch plus 4 so to speak. The hauler was quite colorful to say the least. After showing up 2 hours late, they are right down the road a few miles, they then went to lunch for another 1-1/2 hour. Showing up with rotted timbers to set the cradle on the trailer at that point I sent them to Lowes for 3 6 X 6 X 12s and loaded it myself. The 14 miles to the marina were some of the longest in my life. As YOT careened down the road from side to side, often looking as if it would be in the ditch at any moment, I realized I no longer needed to keep my cardiac stress test that was supposed to happen. So today at 11:00 we are going to enjoy the launch. Pictures tonight.
