CONGRATS!:wow3:
LOOKING GOOD.
It will look even better when you spash it and hoist the sails.

Congratulations! Now, go sailing.
You betcha! I’m busy getting the boat interior back together. Whilst “watchin’ paint dry” I removed all the smelly, moldy hull carpeting and replaced it as well as other interior projects.
Will do some shakedown day sailing in preparation for the Hospice Turkey Shoot Regatta the first of Oct.

WOW!! Karma was a b!tch! She looks GREAT now!

Questions; how were the genoa tracks sealed originally? (were they sealed originally??) What was there core in this area made of (balsa or plywood)? How badly was the core in this area rotted??

Thanks. The track was sealed with some type of sealant (butyl?) which was still quite tacky. It was only applied around the mounting screws and not the length of the track, I did the same using butyl tape. The mounting holes were not beveled and not drilled/epoxied/drilled. I used the drill/epoxy/drill procedure and beveled the holes to mount them. Hopefully it will be good for another 40 years.

The core under the tracks and the cap shroud u-bolts was plywood, not balsa. I wouldn't say that it was rotted. In both areas the adhesive for the ply was gone, however the veneers had not dissolved as had much of the balsa core that had been wet. I had planned on using coosa as the core for every deck penetration, however after comparing marine plywood specs with coosa and alternatives, decided that ply was the better choice.

I suspect that O'day used a polysulfide sealant, similar to 4200 throughout the boat. There are signs of this sealant around where the traveler track is attached to the cabintop. When I pulled up the old cabin soule on Far Niente, that is what was holding it down. When I replaced the soule, I used 4200.

I recently pulled off one of the triangles that close the ends of the genoa track. I know that I will be doing the drill, fill, and drill exercise to seal these holes properly, I simply dread removing the genoa tracks (24 machine screws and nyloc nuts EACH) and doing the same. I always have to work alone, and can see that this is a job that will require two people.

Yeah, the jib tracks are a two person job. Most everything else can be handled with a hand full of vise grips and duct tape.
