Nice pic!, me and a few friends had our last marina "harrah" last Saturday, boat to boat, tasting all kinds of diff beers. Needless to say, it was a success!, From what I remember....lol !!!!! Now it's improvement time for next season.

No way, Gabe! so far, this has been the best winter we have experienced in years. We really haven't had much snow to speak of all winter long.
It was like,-- in the 60s one day last week and I decided to uncover the bow section of my boat so that I could get at the bottom of my mast to make a mast plug out of Trex for a Mickey Mouse home made mast extrusion.
I ordered my bottom paint from Super Ship Bottom yesterday over the phone and told her to send it up around the end of March.

I think it's all down hill now. February is a short month and March is on the way. I'm really looking forward to the spring. I plan on getting the bottom all painted on the first warm spring day. That will give me plenty of time after to get her off the stands and back on to the trailer.
Of course, we could always get hit with a big snow storm but the snow won't last long as the spring progresses.
Hang on to your 25 if you can Gabriel. Get something that you can use to kick around in for now. I'm sure the lake will come back up in time.
Good luck!
Joe

new oday owner

Hi everyone, Just bought a new-to-me 1976 Oday 25 on a tandem axle trailer. She has a spinnaker and three head sails, roller furling, a nice honda 10 four stroke outboard and a fantastic red interior! lol! She has been on the hard for three years, but she seems to be stoutly built and in good shape, hull wise. I can't check the centerboard, is that a problamatic issue on these? The forward edge of the rudder looks great, so I assume she hasn't been run aground. The wiring looks a little like a rats nest under the starboard cockpit access hatch. BAtteries are at leat three years old. Halyards need replacing, etc. but anyways I can't wait for spring! With a few weekends of work she should be good to go lake sailing. Anyone with experience on reworking a 25 oday just chime on in. Thanks

Re: new oday owner

Plainsailor -

Congrat's on the "new" boat. I've had an 83 O'Day 25 for just over a year and have really enjoyed it. I upgraded from an 85 O'Day 222 (another boat I really liked). I would suggest that you check the centerboard pivot pin at some point during the year. If the water isn't too cold, you can dive under the boat and take a look. Equally important, check the area under the mast-step and the chainplates for possible water intrusion problems. These are common problems on O'Day's since they all tend to be more than 20 years old. There are quite a few stories of water leaking through the deck and rotting out the inside bulkheads which causes the stays to pull out and the rig to come down. Look for black stains on the bulkhead wood around the chainplates. Also leaks under the mast can get water in the balsa wood which would then need to be fixed. Both of these projects are possible, even for a novice (I speak from experience since I'm definitely a novice and I was able to fix the water problem under the mast-step). There's also a lot of good advice that you'll get from this forum.

We've still got a few months before we're back in the water in Wisconsin, although it's been a mild winter and there is all open water at my mooring field on Lake Michigan.

Welcome to the club!

Plainsailor, You have the same boat as me. Mine was also in fair shape when I got it two years ago. I made some improvements last year: Bottom paint, fixed a cracked transom, new plug from boat to motor, some wiring fixes, Moved batteries to more accessible location, and a auto-helm that has been problematic.. I also got the propane locker up to snuff. This year pretty broke so sailing and repaires will be minimal. Insulate ice box and maybe through hull up grade for sink. I also bought a masthead ant. and a mainsail halyard. So have those to do also. Well good luck with it. I think you will find it sails much better with a genoa then a 100% jib. Greg

Thanks! I also painted my trailor as best I could. Over the years it seems to have aquired many different shades of blue, like a blue zebra! Now it's grey primer and soon-to-be one shade of bue again!

Just had to share this pic I took from a few weeks ago, I pass this each time enter I Lake Erie. This is the same one that I took that frozen lighthouse pic a few years ago. A higher quality one is the leadoff pic on my site...it was an amazing day. The high res one is at kjrstudio.com
