Great photo, the one of the kids makes me miss my own, now grown. We had great times through the years though. Our camping trips in okinawa are the most memorable. We would put the tent on the beach in some out of the way cove, and stay there all week, snorkeling, sunset watching, collect shells, make sand castle cities for the hermit crabs, eat sand in our hotdogs, etc. etc. Now that is the life.
We tried to sail this weekend. Saturday was my only day off. Even though i had worked till 2 A.M., i got up before Lynn and got the gear packed. We went to the boat early and cast off, but very little wind at all. By the time noon hit it was 94 humid degrees and hot hot hot. We rode a little puff of wind back to the dock and came home. Makes me wish for a salt water slip somewhere.

This is a picture I took of my friend Mike "O"'s boat 2 summers ago. I wish some one would take one of mine.....

That is a sweet photo. I remember it from the old site. We have a club pontoon boat. I told a friend a couple days ago we need to take it out and do some video and pics of each other sailing using the pontoon boat to run along side to get some good footage.

Great photos! Great thread!

I'm so looking forward to getting our 6 and 3 year old out on the boat soon... They are truly growing up by the minute. Thanks for reminding me!

Great photo!

I had to filter the photo of the kids. That one got a little white out when taken. Not much of a photoshop artist but I think it is an improvement.

Having the kids growing up on the boat is great. You know they are completely adjusted when they sleep on deck during a sail.

Another from today. I brought the wide angle lens today. What a difference when taking pictures from the bow. Only 0.7 knots of speed, barely filled the sails but we sailed on!

Great pics Dave! I just bought a new Canon Power Shot SX120 IS and I need to get going and take some pics with it.

Those Canon Power Shots are nice. I hope you have Penny trained by now to use it, I am sure the auto focus helps. ;) I end up with so many pics because my wife looooves taking pictures. She is always hard to get into a picture though. This is from another light air day with the big Genny up, I love that sail when the Bermuda High is over us. Of course it looks odd when you let the sails fill up to try and catch the little puffs.

Yesterday we had great wind and the boat was just getting it. The wife even canceled my first attempt to put the boat away for the night because the wind was just too good. We were so busy sailing, we never snapped a pic.

Tonights sunset sail. Good wind, not real strong but good for a sunsat sail.

Here are a couple of my favorite pictures.
Dani is a salty dog who we introduced to sailing this year...she has taken over.

We spend a good deal of time anchored to a sand bar in lake Simcoe and when the day comes to an end we always have an excellent sunset to enjoy on our way in.

Dave,
My wife is a great 1st Lt also. We have had some really hot days and nights where the cabin was stuffy, and we have been stuck in some pretty scary thunderstorms on our little lake. She has never complained and always goes with me when i am ready. It has been really hot here the past couple of weeks, with random thunderstorms severe enough to keep us home so i have not tried her patience much the past two weeks.
It looks like you have a great place to sail from your pictures. I look forward to getting my boat into some more interesting waters. But i sure love the convenience and the low cost of keeping my boat on Weiss.
We did have an interesting sail last month: I was anchored out in a little bay just around the corner from the club. What little wind we had during the day was dead, and the water was like glass. When i woke at at around 1 A.M. i heard water running somewhere, a tinkling sound. At first i thought that the wind had picked up but everything else, all those other "wind noises" were absent. Next i suspected that the shower bag i had laid on the starboard locker was leaking, so i got out of my berth and stuck my head up through the companion way screen door. Yep, the noise was outthere, louder, and the wind was still totally calm. My suspicions seemed correct so I crawled on through the door and stepped onto the rug i have on the floor of the cockpit. To my surprise it was totally dry! So the shower bag couldn't be the culprit since it would have leaked onto the rug, soaking it. And, now i could tell that the sound was coming from the water lapping against the hull. But there was no wind! Mystified, i got my flashlight and looked into the water along the hull, and beyond. There were thousands of crappie minnows everywhere running along side the boat and as far as the flashlight could see. It was a moonless night. The next day i talked with some of the locals and they said that on moonless nights a couple of times during the summer the crappie will hatch and the minnow "will run" out of the shallows. They say they do it on moonless nights because the adults can't see them as well when they look up, since the sky is dark, Now how do those eggs know when it is going to be a moonless night?!?
happy sails

Hey Keith,
Are the fish in that lake safe to eat? Crappie are pretty good eating. I used to catch them with a fly rod fishing a Mickey Finn streamer on my lake in Taunton Ma many years ago. Now, the fish in that lake glow in the dark, it's so toxic.

Yes joe, they sure are. and you are right, the crappie, also known as pan fish (a local name for the several freshwater fish that are usually about hand size and are fried in a pan) are real good eating. Of course around here they would be dipped in buttermilk and rolled in cornmeal then deep fried. Eaten with hushpuppies (fried cornbread balls with onions in them) , deep fried crinkle cut Orida french fries, and cole slaw. And all of it washed down with a big glass of tea. (which always means sweet iced tea). A georgia grown watermelon, ice cold, would make a great desert. All the kids would be running in and out of the house, letting the screen door slam, to find a mason jar to put lightening bugs in, or maybe to tell on somebody. Or just to see what all the grownups are talking about. Pretty good stuff. :)

Come on Keith! I'm supposed to be on a diet don't-sha know. I'm down to 207.5 lbs right now and aiming for 200 lbs. I love fried fish too! Maybe it's a good thing that Phil never reinstated the recipe section on this site. I'd be going back to my old eating habits. I haven't caught any fish since I hooked into that 40" Striper, but I manage to dig a few cherry stone quahogs now and then and make "Clams Casino" or "Clams Gazzupa" which is similar to "Mussels Marinara" right on the boat. See! Now you got me going on food!

Keith, I sail on a small lake compared to what you see most boats on. It is just enough water to make it worth while. On Monday through Friday I usually have the lake to myself, it is a private lake with no public access. It is big enough to have some long runs on and let the kids swim in the middle next to the boat. It is also very clean with sand bottom. Every inch of the shoreline is developed so there are no gators.

I always envied my sailors just south of me on the Gulf..... now I am enjoying that crystal clear water even more. I sure hope that the mess clears up in the Gulf because those are my local getting away waters.

We arrive at Duck Island in time for dinner where we meet up with a few more boats (Jill E, Apple O’day, Second Wind). As we anchor and begin our meal for the night behind Duck Island I wish do we that our sail could take us away to new places traveling amongst the stars to be untied from a dock, from a life on land, from the daily motions of the civilized world. A few drinks and a puff from a fine cigar, to live life as Peter Pan intended it.

Just a reminder, if you post these photos in the Owner Photo Album ( Boat Info -> Photo Album -> Oday model) they will appear on our home page and in our Monday Mail newsletter. Well, the really good ones, anyway. :)
