Does anyone know if there's a source for premade wooden slats that are on the interior walls of the C30 MKIII? I think some areas might be too far gone for sanding. Would prefer to buy premade than to sand, shape, lacquer, etc
It's Ash but not plywood. Go to any lumber store with the photo and dimensions.BTW I don't think those are slats but Ash plywood.
It's possible they were thin strips laminated onto plywood. I didn't look at it that closely but it did come off in one piece. In my 1989 C30 they were definitely ash strips and not plywood, so they must've changed shortly after.
Try a small spot way far aft, got nothing to lose...How successful do you guys think sanding will be?
Nah this is a Catalina. They're too cheap to use extra material. This is glued directly to the fiberglass. So far it's falling off in one piece! I'll pull it off the next time I'm thereIt's possible they were thin strips laminated onto plywood. I didn't look at it that closely but it did come off in one piece.
Good point!Try a small spot way far aft, got nothing to lose...
I just sold my Oday 25. I understand the "joy" of the burlap sackI had an O'Day 26, which came with a burlap material on the walls. I liked the Catalina look, so I went on a quest to find the material you seek - I was unsuccessful. Not to be deterred, I bought some rough sawn ash lumber - 2" thick ×,10" wide x 9-10' long. I saw them into 3/8" strips and planed them to 1/4" - routed the edges, and sanded all smooth. I rubbed tung oil on them - about 7 coats. Tung oil makes repairs super easy if they ever get buggered up. In my experience - the finish is extremely durable and repair was seldom needed. I am now looking to add this upgrade to my Catalina Caprin26 - and will tell you - If I had old slats on the walls, I would refinish them rather than make my own lumber as I did for the O'Day. That was extremely labor intensive. If you look up "New Ceiling in O'Day 26" on you tube you will find a short slide show of the project. Anyway - I would be interested in finding a source for pre-made lumber myself!
