The $1 sailboat has a new owner this season. Our son has sold NAMO' to his sister as he and his boat partner have bought an old Pearson Vanguard.
Under Mary Jane's stewardship and with the help of her very skilled boyfriend, NAMO is being transformed into a tidy camp cruiser. All the weekend work is going on at a nearby inland boatyard.
NAMO has been sailed to within an inch of its life by my son and friends in the last 5 years.
The new ownership is more interested in a compact and very simple to operate pocket cruiser with some basic amenities to spend a few days sailing and exploring the nearby islands and coastline of Penobscot Bay.
MJ gives her aunt a tour of the new galley cooker on top of a butcher block left-over cut-off they installed; the base of which is now closed off to contain a single LA battery and fuse box.
The copper counter top installed (a few seasons back) by a roofing friend of our son will be getting a saltwater hand pump and drain plumbed.
New Tom (as I call MJ's boyfriend), built a stout front and door below out of left over birch ply from my shop. They fit a Yeti-like cooler into the abandoned starboard quarter berth that will serve well for an icebox and work surface with full headroom located beneath the companionway.
It's a hectic time for my sailing family as we prepare to launch 3 boats this season!
NAMOs launch this time last season. I think we've got our money's worth.
