Is there a way of obtaining correct tension on my standing rigging? What is to tight and what is to loose.
Thanks

This article gives a good basic start. Tuning A Sailboat Rig

the basic concept is to use enough tension to hold the mast in the position and shape that you want it in without too much tension. Too much tension is any tension beyond the minimum. That's why the article says to start with hand tight.

On the water means level, this is harder with a small boat that rocks as you move around, so pay attention.

Rake can be subjective, but a good place to start is with the boom level when the main is set.

Be sure that what you do on one side is countered equally on the other, to keep the mast plumb.

I would try to set the rigging in the parking lot before launching. The shrouds should be tight, but not able to play a tune?

I usually describe it as feeling like the bass string on a guitar, but yeah, no tunes. Parking lots are fine if they are level and the boat is level on the trailer. The important part is that it isn't so tight that it bends the boat or stresses the cabin or the chainplates or the keel, but it doesn't allow movement if you jibe.

That last one means, when sailing, the turnbuckles don't every go slack. It's okay to see the tension fall out of the leeward shrouds, but not for the turnbuckles to fall over. This is achieved by sailing and watching and adjusting both sides evenly of you see too much slack.

Your mast will tell you how tight to make it. No bending, unless you intend to put a pre-bend in.

I am looking at running my main and jib halyards to the cockpit. My question is, are sheaves better than friction free rings for change of direction of the lines?
Thanks

I have been watching a video on installing an in-hull transducer for my depth sounder. It stated to sand the inside hull with 30 grit sand to get it smooth, then clean with alcohol and glue to the hull with 2 part, slow drying epoxy.
Question:
Does the epoxy need to be clear or can I use white? Does the color of the epoxy interfere with the transducer‘s performance?
Thanks

There are lots of techniques like this for mounting transducers in the hull. The surface doesn’t really need to be especially smooth, but clean is good. The important thing is that there are no air voids between the transducer and the water outside the hull. That means that the hull must be solid fiberglass (no wood or foam core). And whatever you mount the transducer in can’t have any bubbles. On one end of the spectrum people talk about using wax from a toilet ring, which is effective but not very permanent. Epoxy is the other end of the spectrum - very permanent. Color, mix ratio, etc. should not matter. They probably recommend slow hardener so any air bubbles have a chance to escape before curing. Other frequent suggestions are things like containers of mineral oil and caulk.

Dave:
Is there somewhere I can obtain a drawing of the precise location of the ballast tank for my Hunter 19-2? I would like to install it between the end of the tank and the transom. Possible somewhere near the bilge pump.
Thanks

Will mounting a transducer "in Hull" still enable you to use all the functions? I bought a Garmin fish finder and thinking of doing an in-hull installation instead of the transom mount since the Catalina is already in the water.

I mounted a Lowrance transom mount transducer in-hull once. Worked just fine.
