The 302 "didn't get the job done" because street racing wasn't it's job. specifically built to fit TA class rules, in which it did very well actually.
You do know those TA cars were cheater Camaros, not production?

I must be getting old as I finally shed my last go fast vehicle last fall. But not without one last hurrah. It only hit 100, as that stupid pickup truck pulled right in front of me, so I ran out of real estate to get slowed down. 100 may not seem like much, until you realize that is a 31 foot motorhome. (and yes the poor sailboat has seen well over 90 behind it)
I do have to question why I enjoy sailing so much, when I spent my whole life on things that go fast. Never been stopped by the boat police on a sailboat. Once on a power boat for high speed in close proximity of other boats. I learned the definition of close changes depending on the lake you are on.

Something in a few reports here about being boarded while at anchor. I thought the definitions changed when under anchor, and they can not board without a warrant. I'm kind of thinking if I'm down below taking a shower, or whatever, I'm not sure boarding should be considered reasonable.

But the discussion revolved around the DZ (302) motor option only, of which there were something over 20,ooo built in 69.

A fine engine the 302, it just didn’t have what it took to win TA races unless you cheated. Which is how this thread got to the gear head topic. Early auto racing was populated by a rogues gallery of inventive geniuses who played loose with the rules. Outlaws.

In the summer of 69 I bought a used.. $900 Corvair. It definitely was not the Yenko influenced version. More like Nader. Packed it full of all my college possessions.
Changed the oil, gave it a tune up, and drove from Denver to Norfolk. Blew a tire doing 60 down hill on the interstate. Thought I was going to flip. Changed the tire and drove on. Got to Norfolk and sold it for $750. Cheaper than one way airfare.

I want to put my vote in for Mexicans as the best mechanics in the world. You know how many pre80s VW bugs and micro buses are driving around south of the border? Most look new too. I feel like it is proof the after life does exist, and for old VWs, eternal life is in Mexico.

This thread has been seriously hijacked. If I want to read about cars, I’ll head over to driver. I’d love to read more experiences with Boat Police.

I spent a weekend at Coldwater Lake with friends. Two of us awoke early and decided to go out waterskiing. We did not want to wake anyone else up to be our observer, there were no visible boats on the lake, so we went out without one. During my turn driving, I was watching my friend drop off the tow rope during a turn, when I noticed a young fish cop come out of the shadows along the shore. I slowed and the fish cop motored up alongside me. He told me he was going to cite me for not having an observer, while leaving my friend bob in the water 200 yards away. He then asked me for a pen or a pencil. After a thorough search of my swim trunks, I failed to produce a writing utensil. The fish cop seemed more frustrated than embarrassed that he could not write me up because he lacked the most basic of law enforcement tools.

Another day on the Detroit River we ended up just over on the Canadian side near Belle Isle. I was a passenger seated near the stern enjoying some Jim Beam mixed with Vernors in a plastic cup. Suddenly three OPP officers pulled up along side. The river was very choppy so they held about 4 feet away. Seeing the cup in my hand, one of the officers asked for it. I stood and reached the cup towards him. Somehow I lost my footing and grabbed for the rail to prevent going overboard. The cup ended up in the river. I reached down into the water and retrieved the cup and then dutifully handed it to the officer. He poured the river water out of the cup, shook his head and told us to head back to the American side.

I was never on a boat that was boarded nor unnecessarily harassed.

What does DNR stand for?

I know law enforcement officers have to be security conscious and it is also a safety issue for them to cuff their prisoners, but hand cuffs on a boat might lead to some awkward questions if there was an accident and the vessel turned over or sank.

Kudos, for the organization and courteous treatment of their prisoner. It's refreshing to see a published video that doesn't show law enforcement at their worst.
