I've recently been adopted by a beautiful CP 23/2. She was wondering where I should mount a shore power plug. Any thoughts?

i think you have to be with in 10 ft of your breaker panel so that will narrow it down some.....

Thank you Woody, now to figure out where within 10 feet the plug will be most out of the way while still being accessible and safe. I was thinking near the rear of the cockpit just under where I would sit but am worried that while plugged in it would be in the way as I lounge about eating dinner. Any further thoughts?

If you walk around and look at other boats you'll see that none of the connections are under anything. On a boat that size I would put it on the coaming just aft of the bulkhead facing outboard 3 to 5 inches above deck level. Then it will be hidden from view inside, but easily accessible otherwise. There's a water seal cap on the connection to keep out the weather when the cable is not used. You don't want to put it at extreme ends of the boat, rather locate it amidships so you can use the same length cable whether you're moored bow or stern in.

That smart plug is pretty pricey.... these are more common... one's metallic the other is non-metallic:

Don't Com-Pac boats have only one hull? They are after all monohull sailboats.

A few things to think about when installing shore power.

A proper shore power inlet will have several key components, an ELCI, a Galvanic Isolater, an AC panel, a GFCI, and a SmartPlug inlet. The first two should be located very near the inlet. The determining factor for the inlet location will be a place to have the GI and ELCI mounted nearby. ABYC does specify a specific distance between the inlet and the ELCI.

If you want to review the ABYC standards (E-11), you can join ABYC for 5 days for free as recreational boater and have full access to the standards. There is no direct download of the standards, however, with a little computer magic you can save a copy for later review.
