OK here is what I am talking about and hopefully will start removing
the old 5200 with a heavy screw driver and have one of those small dremels.
I only really have one side that is leaking and only just found the minor leak when cleaning off the shelf where my wife store her kitchen stuff, but I will
re do both sides at the same time.
The stainless plate is bolted with 3 bolts on the inside and being such a minor leak after all these years the boat is a 2007 so not bad that I need to redo the plate now.

That plate is held on by the 3 bolts you mention?

If so, unbolt the plate and put the butyl on the back side of the plate.

If a manufacturer told me to use this horrible stuff, it would give me a WHOLE nuther insight into their build structure.

I know it just did it for me..

5200

I know everyone thinks Butyle tape is the Holy Grail and I agree and if I was mounting any hardware on my boat I will use my box of Butyle tape for sure,
I will be rebeding some of my dodger mounts with it for sure.
I have always had good info and help from Hunter and after finding out what a big job it would be taking apart the chain plate and need to take some of the rigging off to do this job I took the advice of just rebeding with 5200 because it is such a minor leak and to apply 5200 at this time is the right thing to do for me.
5200 has been used for many years in the past on boats of all kinds so I don't think it is all that bad and I have seen alot of dodgers and bimini hardware sealed with 5200 and has done very well.
I am really surprised I have not heard from any other Hunter owners who have the same type of chain plates like many 356 and 36 owners who should have had a leak at this location on the boat.
I will be talking to some Hunter owners in my local area and see what they
have or have done for their chain plate leaks but for now I don't want to take these chain plates apart and reded and will 5200 for now.
I thank everyone with advice and help.

If you're going to ignore the advice above, at the very very very very very least, PLEASE DON'T USE 5200 for that, if you're going to use anything from 3M, use 4000UV instead. It goes on just the same, but it's far far far less permanent, and it's UV stable so it won't degrade, turn yellow, brittle, and crack from the UV like 5200 will.

5200 should only be used below the water line sealing holes that would otherwise let the water go from outside the hull inside, or sealing the deck and hull joint. it has virtually no other legitimate use on a boat.
