What is wrong with this bowline

Mainesail was right! "It doesn't LOOK like a bowline"
It is a common novice mistake. Superficially it looks like a bowline. Usually small differences are important in the formation of a proper knot.
Knots have different names in different trades what we call a sheet bend they called a weavers knot in the cotton mills.

two problems I see. It looks like someone that is left handed made it for one. The other is the first loop goes over the top of the standing line and the second loop comes through from underneath. I agree this is not at all like a bowline, but what is it? I'd call it a Grampy knot (a granny knot but we don't want to offend Ross).
Hey... what's wrong with a left handed bowline? ( the first knot isn't a bowline) You right handers are just jealous because you can't tie one. It's just that no southpaw ever wronte an instruction manual on knot tying, or ever made a rope for that matter.

i make ambidextrous knots--isnt any difference in appearance after they are finished lol--the notabowline is like the knots the previous owner of my formosa used to tie--he being a boat virgin didnt tie any we know of......
Reading Ashley's shows many variations of knots and in some places he list the reliability of the knot ranging from deadly to you can bet your life on it. Also remember that many knot s were developed for natural fiber rope and synthetic fiber is slippery and some knots that hold well in hemp are dangerous in some modern high tech lines.
How about posting the correct way to tie up to a cleat. I see them tied incorrectly all the time. BTW... it is spelled 'mistakes'.I knew that!

... wouldn't the tail still be capable of snagging and spilling the knot if the tail is inside? Also, when the bowline is loaded, the tail is captured, whether the tail is inside or outside, yes?just asking.I tried to clear my mind and then I tied bowlines with two hands, then the one-handed method, and in both cases the tail was indeed inside. I also tied the knot with tail inside, then outside, and in both cases the knot seemed equally resistant to spilling when the tail was pulled on.
