The tourist map said this town was called Dalyan, but Google said Dalyan was over 200km away. Still, there were local references to that name.

This was an interesting children's playground at the marina. Mermaids are a fairly common image on the Turkish coast.

A sailboat among motor yachts. There actually seem to be a lot of sailboats on the Ionian side of the Aegean Sea.

If you've never heard of Turgut Reis (Dragut), you are missing out on one of the most brilliant naval strategists that ever lived. This guy was referred to by a French Admiral, "A living chart of the Mediterranean, skillful enough on land to be compared to the finest generals of the time. No one was more worthy than he to bear the name of king."
Pretty good for the son of a farmer.

This the style of cruising my wife enjoys. Warm temperatures. No rain/snow/ice..

Got to get my engine rebuilt and installed. February is the month of action if I am to retain an ounce of sanity. :banghead:

Royal Caribbean say you older than 65 you’re to old to kayak/snorkel/jet ski/zip line.

So I went to the beach with my mask and swam out to visit with the barracuda and sting rays. They don’t mind old guys.
REALLY?
The car rental company in St Lucia had a notice on its web site saying to rent a car if you're over 70 you need a doctors certifying health note. My doctor (who has gray hair too) rolled his eyes in disgust. Wrote a note saying I'm "quite fit to drive a motor vehicle".
My biggest issue was they drive British-style on the wrong side of the road. I kept turning on the wipers when I wanted to signal a turn. :)

The view off our balcony in Marmaris, Turkey. This is a yachting town. The harbors are filled with sailboats, big expensive ones and mega yachts. There are Chandleries all over the place. Sailmakers, marine upolsterers, pipe fitters, fiberglass repair, rope, chain, everything you would want for you boat, being sold in this town. And, at least off-season, prices are great. 1200TL ($60) to have a big and excellent dinner, with two rounds of raki, on the waterfront for three people.

Of course, always followed by Turkish tea.
This dish is the Ottoman Hot Pan. There's a fire in the brazier under that pan. Those fries are served everywhere.

Another shot off the balcony of our four floor apartment for $200/night, 4000TL per night.

Right on the line between the Aegean and the Mediterranean seas.

After ~3 weeks of little to no wind and other commitments when we had some wind we finally got Kolibri out of a sunset cruise. 14 knots out of the south with occasional gusts up to 20 knots with my wife's parents on board. With 2 reefs in the main, standard staysail up, and jib furled to make the ride casual we still had a boat speed of 5 to 7 knots on a beam reach. Not a great pic, but here's the view heading back in towards the harbor.

I'm traveling on Wednesday so here's an early start. The Eddie Aikau was held at Waimea Bay on Sunday. In the summer it's one of my favorite spots to anchor. In the winter it can be pretty intense. Here are a few highlights from the day.

Some exciting images. I never surfed on a short board with an ankle tie. I imagine that could be quite hairy to be tied to a board that is tumbling in that surf.

JUST BACK
We just got back from our Caribbean Cruise. It was nice to be in the warmth even if for only 7 days. Arrived in Miami Saturday about midnight the 14th. It was 58ºF. Lyft driver to the hotel said it was winter. To day and Tomorrow... Then Summer begins. Felt like the weather was following us from the Pacific NW.

Made it to the ship ahead of them untying the lines. The Oasis of the Sea. Not the biggest in the fleet but damn near. Can carry over 6300 passengers and over 2000 crew members. I counted 18 life boats, with a capacity placard 370 passengers. I did the math... Life boats for 6,660 souls.

I didn't ask what about the other 1600. Shark food?:yikes:

We survived and enjoyed the experiences. Food was bland. A disappointment til I got on the scale at home and found I had lost a pound. Yeah.

Next time we charter our own boat and hire a cook to come along. Maybe we can follow the boat and pick up some of the crew forced to swim.
