The instructions were provided in an earlier post. The PSS has a different compression for each shaft size. I believe the 1” shaft is 3/4”compression from a static state when installed.

here is the link to the manual. They are a pretty handy tool. Try page 3. Less need to guess.
This is correct and works with a new installation. However, after the bellows has been compressed for a while it does not spring back to its original size. If you the original length, then you can adjust the measurements.

Hi all,

I did an oil change recently and put fresh oil in my sailboat’s Yanmar 2GM20F engine. After running it for a little while, I’m noticing a small oil leak that wasn’t there before.

It seems like it’s coming from around the transmission area, but I’m not completely sure. There’s a part there with what looks like a small hole, and oil seeps out a bit when the engine is running.

Has anyone experienced this on their sailboat engine? Is that hole supposed to be there, like a vent or weep hole, or could it be a sign of a seal or gasket issue? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thinking it may be a shift shaft seal.

Thanks!

I didn't get through all of the posts, but one obvious thing to do if you're wondering where the water is coming from is to just put a dry sponge underneath the shaft seal, and go motor around for a while. I usually keep a sponge under my traditional stuffing box, as it's an easy way to check how much it's dripping.

Same thing for the vent hose: just put a sponge / paper towel around it, and you'll know if it's venting water.
