I have read your excellent posts (especially Maine Sail) about the installation of the BMV 600.

I have installed mine, but not on a boat. I have installed my on an RV.

I hoping you will still help me?

My setup seems to work fine until I plug into shore power and the inverter starts sending power to my battery bank. When I touch the negative lead to the battery bank, the batteries start to hum and vibrate. I know this can't be good.

My battery bank consists of 4- 6 volt batteries wired in series and parallel (I have a 12 volt system)

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Thanks in advance for your help on this!

The negative lead from where? the Victron? are you putting the negative lead at the right location on the battery bank (battery's wired in series/parallel)

OBTW....the RV is a land yacht :D

Negative from shunt to battery

Yes I have the right location on the battery bank.

All worked fine until I added the shunt.

All works fine until I plug into shore power.

Is a modified sine wave in inverter a problem?

Negative goes from shunt to the back post on the left hand battery which is a negative post. 4 - 6 volts 12 volt system.

Why would you have your inverter on when plugged into 120 volt power? And why would your inverter be sending power to your batteries? Chuck

My mistake, I have a xantrex inverter charger. I meant the charger.

My eyes may be goofy, but that battery wiring looks like 3 batteries wired together?

Ron
there are 4 battery's and they are 6 volt each and two are wired in series to make a 12 volt battery and that pair are joined together with the other pair to make one large 12 volt house bank

Are you disconnecting the negative wire that goes from the battery to the RV and installing it on the shunt then putting a jumper from the shunt back to the battery ground? cause humming and vibrations sound like a dead short across the positive and negative

Yes
I have double checked all connections on the install guide.
Tomorrow I will shoot a pic of my Victron install.
Maybe I am missing something.

I see the 4, and know how they are supposed to be wired, but i'll have to take your word for it. Just following the cables, it looks like all 4 are wired in series for 24 volts, with the feed on the 2 right-hand that are barely in the pics.. Anyone else see it that way? Or is it my coffee?

he could put a volt meter on the out put cables and take a reading.... that will tell you if he has 12 v ...18v...or 24v but some thing does not look right about the series and parall cables in the pic.....

Sorry for the bad pic Ron, that one was just to remind me how I had it wired when I was working on it. I will take a better one today so you can see things better.

Starting at the left hand battery: Back post is -NEG. where I will connect the jumper from the shunt. That post -NEG. leads to 3rd battery -NEG. (parallel) Front post is +POS. to the 2nd battery front post -NEG. (series) 2nd battery back post +POS. leads to 4th battery +POS. post. (parallel) 3rd battery + POS. post leads to 4th battery front post -NEG. (series) and the 4th battery back post is +POS. leading to the loads. I have a solar panel charger, Xantrex Freedom inverter charger and the loads to the coach on that pos. post.

Hope that clears the batteries up a little

I have seen Maine Sail's post about having a bus bar for multiple cables. I need to get on e of those. Where do I buy them?

It may not look right woody because I don't have the batteries running in the same direction. Some are 180 deg. to the others.

Whoa!!! do I see a red positive cable wired to the shunt in that picture?

No RAD, sorry. I am using an old jumper cable that has red tape on them. That jumper will connect to the left hand rear post (-NEG.)
