The mast and boom roller furler uses a luff cloth. The luff and main connect via plastic extrusion. The extrusion was damaged. We sail with a reefed mail until the extrusion can be replaced.

We sail.

Interesting. I had my AIS in the whole time and we are right along the coast. We anchored in the bay in front of Portsmouth on the side with the commercial port as that's where customs is located. There were many people waiting but it went fairly fast given the numbers of folk coming in. As i do not have a motorized dinghy, it only cost 15 Caribbean dollars there and another 15 for a mooring fee. I believe if I had a motor on my dinghy it would be more.

Folks here are really nice. Everyone pretty much has said hi. When I've stopped folks to ask questions they have all been really nice answering and going out of their way.

We met a guy that has a house here from Boston. He winters down here. Has a really amazing garden! He pointed us to a place for dinner, they actually only make lunch and we're closing a 5. We got there about 4:30. But they made us a nice dish and let us sit inside eating it until we were done while closing up the store. They also had really good ice cream!

We just got back to the boat and tomorrow morning will look for a better anchorage on the other side of the bay but we are good for tonight.

Tomorrow is Carnaval here! Look out!

It looks like you had most of your main up. Did you get the bottom of the sail sorted?
I still have the weak clew. I prefer to only run my main up to about one or two boom wraps from fully up, so not able to put full main up but pretty close.

The plastic extrusion has been damaged, but the repairs to that are allowing it to function pretty much as if it's not damaged.

The biggest pain is my main is stretched out from the hurricane (near) run so rolling it up on the boom is REALLY fussy....

I have a bathroom to re-floor and put back together first, but I'd like to join you for a couple of weeks +.

I hope, John, you aren't gone by the time I get there. It will be my biggest pleasure to finally meet.

Yes those are 5 masts with what looks like 2 furled fore sails on the bow, and 1 in front of each of the remaining masts.

And the Le Bellot 184 passengers.

Hey DJ I noticed in this forum that you are looking for the plastic track that runs up the boom roller furling system that runs up the mast. Just wondering whether you managed to find it or not?

Well, it looks like @jssailem found it. He is currently on my boat and brought a small sample with him that looks like It will work. So yes, I believe I have now got a solution - thanks to John finding it through @DrJudyB another member here (haven't seen her post in some time but she is a brilliant sailmaker).

Is that your luff cloth pictured?

Send me a PM.

p.s. Looks like a new luff cloth is in store for you also - I had a new one built for my boat before heading off...

I noticed there are no fishing poles on the stern pulpit railing. It isn't as easy for a sailor to fish as it was when I was a kid, but I did find this article, if you're interested in a little self-caught dinner while adventuring through the islands.
Fishing regs in the Caribbean
"Fishing in the Caribbean can be a little confusing, as one island requires a permit and is strictly catch and release, and just on the horizon, the neighboring island nation is a complete free for all.

But don’t get your lures in a bunch. We compiled a list of all the Moorings Bases in the Caribbean, what to expect fishing-wise from each destination and how to get your fishing permits."

I don't know what "Moorings Bases" refers to, I haven't explored the rest of their website, but it seems like a yacht rental company. However, this is a decent start to getting a grip on Caribbean fishing laws.
