Well, as you know indeed I've arrived. We are all checked in. Got a slip as I feel the need for RnR. When John arrives we'll need to provision. Much easier from a dock than anchored out and rowing back and forth.

Checking in was fairly easy. I'd done my research on Noon site - super resource! I only forgot about customs so had to do that at the office. That took some time. Otherwise very efficient.

I've just measured our water usage for the crossing.we used 101 gallons of fresh water for the 3 person, 26 day crossing. So that's works out to 1.3 gallons of water per person per day. I think that's very good considering we all took a few showers, mostly in salt water with a final rinse in fresh water, and we did two loads of laundry during the crossing. That takes quite a bit of water for the rinsing. If we had refrained from doing laundry I wonder if we would have been closer to the 1 gallon per day per person. Certainly if we'd not showered nor done laundry we would have been possibly below that.

I carry 220 gallons in two saddle tanks. A bit beyond the two week mark we checked our water and realized we were well covered so the remaining days we were a bit less conservative. That may also have played into the slightly higher consumption.

In any case - it time for a shower!

That's pretty darn good, dLj!
Thank you.

I've always heard the 1 gallon per person per day and always felt it was too conservative. So I've always planned for 2 gallons per person per day. Since here in the islands you pay for water, it's the first time I've actually been able to measure usage. So it's my first real data point, like ever...

I will say we were generally quite conservative with water use. We did all our dishes in sea water. It was really only drinking, tea, coffee, and cooking where we used fresh water (with the exceptions noted above).

I am still interested in a water maker. But since I carry this much water, I'm not sure I could ever justify the investment. Not unless I were to come live down here in the Caribbean where you have to buy water.

Yes David slipped that bit of news into the conversation.

About 10 days ago David proposed this idea of joining his crew in the Caribbean to help sail up to the Chesapeake. It sounded just too exciting to pass up. But there are logistical issues. How to get there from the west coast. Which island. Air fare costs. How much time would be invested. All the rationalization went out the window when I found a half price one way air fare to Saint Lucia on the 30th December. That and David decided that Saint Lucia would be his Lafall. It was the stars aligning. I chatted with my wife and she agreed it was an opportunity that needed to be taken. I love that woman.

If the airlines live up to their promise I’ll join David to celebrate the New year and sail with him for the month of January.

Flight check in is complete.

Gear nearly packed. Back in the day crew heading out for 30 days were issued a “Sea Chest”.
In “Joe and the Volcano”, Joe selected traveling luggage. It came in handy when the boat sunk.

Counting the hours… Temps here Overcast, damp and 40º.
St Lucia mostly clear, 83º wind out of the NE at 9.5 knots, with more of the same forecast for the next 10 days…

How fast and how far north are you going? Will you run into winter?
Yes they will !
@jssailem is on flight out of Miami now

Jim...
 It sounds like JamesG16 thinks they will run into Winter because @jssailem will be joining them.

Considering jssailem's old avatar, it's not such an absurd notion. I hope, Dave, you and your crew are prepared for some Winter sailing.

I've been formulating a plan. Won't leave Caribbean before March 13.

I'll post when when I've figured it out.

John arrived safely. As did his bags which had been some question on.

We went out partying in a barrio of Rodney Bay. Music, fireworks, beach, more...
