Indeed, The SoCal Potters are not exclusive at all. Even though they cater mostly to trailerable boats hey welcome all sorts of boats, even motor boats and large boats.

Walt, my wife has expressed interest in taking the ASA 101 next summer, and I've considered Dillon as a good place to do this. What are your thoughts?

Got the keel installed and she is back on the trailer with new bunker boards and carpet.

Stepped the mast, did a final check of all the rigging, halyards and lines. Double checked the lights, wiring and fuses with the new battery installed.
Everything worked. Got the boat and trailer registered a couple of days ago.

Hope to get her in Saturday, crossing my fingers for favorable conditions

Please post the details about your Oceanside trip including the marina!!! I am "sort of" retiring in one month (59.5) and sailing Southern California is high on the list for next year (I used to live in Huntington Beach and Long Beach). I’m also hoping to join a group of small boats to Catalina Island. I think at least two groups do that and I’ve met some of the people from the Lake Havasu connection.
PM me, and I'll join you to Catalina.

Jeff

That trip is a year away for me.. but sounds like a really good thing to do..

Dillon for sailing classes? It can be extremely nice sailing there or you can get your axx handed to you by strong gusty wind and thunder storms. Its definitely a sailboat lake but the mountains can be hard on beginners.

If the reason to go was sailing only, I think there probably are much better places (maybe Southern California). On the other hand, that is just a really great place on the planet if you like the mountains and the sailing can be very nice.

Thanks Walt, that's kind of what I figured. We're lake sailors, but at 6100 ft. and our canyons don't funnel the wind like the high mountains can. We've been to Dillon but never sailed there. I've looked at Blue Mesa but the classes are more expensive there. We'd like to stay regional to cut down on the costs even though Cali would be nice. I've got time to think this through and plan it.

Oceanside CA is wonderful. I've got sweet Sandy Ann in a guest slip for the 10 days its $1.20 a ft per day but its so easy. Drive down park hop on and go. My grand daughters 10 and 7 my wife and myself even stayed the night. We are getting our practice in and its good

These pictures are from Lake Granby last weekend. This is probably my favorite lake in Colorado. Unfortunately if you live in Denver you have to take I70 to get there... something I try to avoid on the weekends. It’s an interesting lake with long inlets to boat camp on, great scenery (sort of on the back side of Rocky Mountain National park) and a cool little laid back town. It’s over 8000 ft elevation so always chilly and like all the high mountain lakes, things can change fast and get wild. Colorado is really anal now about invasive species and water ballast complicates this.. which is partly why I sail this kayak/tri here in the summer - very easy to inspect.

i finally got around to starting installation on my anchor chocks. the new cleats have been in place for over a year, but with our San Juan Islands trip coming soon, it was time to complete the setup
traced the chocks, slightly over sized

ground their footprints flat on the toe rail molding

it's not finished here, but this is how it will look. i finished the day by drilling the mounting holes over sized and taping over the whole thing till i can get back to it and bed it all with epoxy

San Juan’s.. are you going to trailer up to Anacortes or motor up there.. I think if you had the time (I didn’t until now), motoring up there would also be a good thing to do.

My wife and I are going to be near Poulsbo for the week before labor day sailing in the peninsula area with a Hobie TI and then on San Juan Island (Friday Harbor) the week after labor day.

Walt, we only have the Fri-Mon of Labor Day weekend... so she'll ride the trailer to either Anacortes or Bellingham - depending if I decide to do north or south part of the islands. (although Bellingham has free tow vehicle/trailer parking. Anacortes is $9/day)

Today I am getting my wire harness installed on my 06 Jeep with the tow package. This completes my trailer hitch now I really am a trailer sailor. i feel unstoppable...

Are you referring to the condition of the trailer brakes? OK.. bad joke..

If you have the single axle trailer and have to tow the boat very far, you may want to measure the tongue weight. Convention is that it should be at least 10% (maybe 250 to 300 pounds). My experience is that under 150 is going to have control problems, over 175 will travel fairly nice.

Reason I mention this is that its fairly common for these boats to not be all the way forward on the trailer - resulting in a light tongue and it wont tow well, maybe even dangerous.

Pueblo Res.. great spot especially spring and fall. I sailed Pueblo this year Feb 7..

No joke intended, I didn't have a trailer hitch on my jeep. I had one installed at (a major chain garage) when I went in over a week ago the told me that they did not have the wire harness. They finally called me yesterday and said they had it. Now I can get my boat home when my slip lease runs out.

I also spent the same to get a class III/class IV hitch rated for 500 lb tongue weight and 5000 lb trailer. And I only have to tow it to the Springs.

After deciding to make a San Juans trip happen this year, we pulled the trigger on a new auxiliary. Tohatsu 6hp SailPro. I'm excited about how deep that prop is and how easy it is to tilt out of the water (we ended up sailing with the old unit in the water, cause it was impossible to tilt from in the boat). Hopefully this buys us years of not worrying about our outboard, cause we were getting real sick of the old Johnson

Great motor choice. Did you add the extra plate on the transom or was that there when you bought it? I've been thinking about doing something similar.

Thanks! Looking forward to having a reliable Aux. The plate was there, its just some thin plywood. I will replace it with something more substantial this winter
