Bought the Mac a new tow rig the other day. Found what I was looking for in very good shape, for a great price, so I didn't mess around. Checked Craigslist the night I bought it and found the camper shell 200 miles away, so I went down yesterday and picked it up. On the ~400 mile, 90% highway drive to get it I clocked a hand-calculated 19.7 MPG. Not bad for a 4X4 with the 5.3 V8 and 3.73 rear end. VERY happy so far!

Nice looking truck, and great mpg! What is the tow rating on something like that? I've been trying to avoid buying a truck; but, towing options are pretty limited without one. Congratulations on your new tow vehicle.

Thanks, Bob. I've read conflicting data on the tow rating, but I'm 95% sure it's either 7,000 or 7,500 lbs. I had a truck nearly identical to this for a company vehicle for 5 years and over 100K miles and never had a complaint. I definitely towed over the rating with that one. My current Explorer has a rating of 3500, which is pushing it a bit. The Mac was a consideration in looking for a truck, but I had other needs as well. In this area it seems used trucks are either priced ridiculously high or really beat up.

We tow a Catalina-22 with a Honda Pilot rated at 3500-lbs - it's marginal. I often consider a Mac-26s for our next boat - bigger, but very towable. I notice that you are in NM - we lived in Albuquerque / Cedar Crest for many years. Where do you sail your Mac? We're in Phoenix now and mostly sail on Lake Pleasant, but, I'm trying to tow to San Diego Bay in March.

I'm in the 4 Corners area, so mostly Navajo but there are a few choices. Shoot me a message if you ever get up this way.

Sailings pretty fun

Yesterday, I put my mac 25 in salt water at Long Beach harbor southern cal. sunshine blue skies, shorts and a long sleeve t shirt. Oh yea, stayed inside harbor cause storm up north made seas rough with big swells. Me, being new at this I wasn't ready for it . I just have to say with info from this site no leaking keel and it was dry as a bone inside. And it was wonderful. Thanks a lot for helping with new adventures. Hopefully we can do it again next week.

I brought home some of my old cushions to copy the covers. I am going to make new cushion covers for all 3 Mac's. If I have enough left over I will do the Siren covers too.
I'll get to it later this week or on the weekend. I'm making a cat puppet with Jasmine right now and don't want faux fir all over my cushion cover project. This is the puppet were making. It's a cat on YouTube called Ned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXN0ej0eYCk
Very Funny!
This is the material I am using for the cushions. And the faux fir for the cat. Also the first attempt at the foam cat head. It still needs work.
(No name as of yet but I'm told it will be a girl cat.)

Pulled the Mac out of storage today. With the strangely warm weather (low to mid sixties for the next few days, been in the 50's) I hope to get a jump start on a few projects. It looks like I'll get a spot at the marina this year so there is a laundry list of things I need to get done.

The new tow rig is fantastic, BTW. Sorry for the really bad cell phone pic:

Is that just off Pinion Hills? It is almost as warm in Utah at home as it is in Florida. I bought an electric blanket for down here (FL) the other day as it has been getting in the low 40's at night and no heat in the boat. Days have been great though ,

No, East of town out towards the lake. I keep it stored out there because the bays are fully enclosed. Didn't really need it this year, though, as we had hardly any snow. That doesn't bode well for water levels in the lake this summer. For the last few years the fixed-keel guys have pulled theirs out early. Love the flexibility of water ballast and a swing keel for small-ish lake sailing.

I kind of hated to see it drive off even though I hadn't had it in the water since June when I swapped it out for my Cal 2-27. The guy that bought it drove down to OK from SD. I hope to see him on the forums here soon.

Due to a Bimini need, I finally gave up and moved to mid boom sheeting. Next are lazy jacks.

Sure feels more like a day sailor now. I was smiling after the change.
