snip- Is it still a crime down there to be involved in an accident no matter who is at fault?
I don't know.

I have read that "anything short of murder, the law is very negotiable".

Sum,

If you're looking for east coast stuff I am trying to put a regatta together for June in the lower chesapeake.

I didn't do anything to my boat but... My accomplice and I did something to our lake!
In an effort to speed up the thawing process I chopped a hole in it! She ran around stomping her feet and did some twirling too.
I figure that our effort has sped up the thawing process by tenths of seconds and has greatly affected the overall structural integrity of the 9x12x12 hole I made.
Only 3 maybe 4 more months of ice! Yea!
I think I would be investing in an ice-boat, either with runners or skis. Living in the Mojave desert I enjoy land-sailing on the dry lake beds. It's like sailing a fast dinghy but you don't get wet.

iceboating is real fickle for conditions.. you need safe ice and it has to be snow free and a hard surface. When its good.. there is amazinlgy low drag but some snow that night and its completly screwed up. Denver gets good conditions every once in a while but most of the time.. not good. Land sailing.. not as low drag as ice to begin with but way more consistant.

Bud, do you do much land sailing? I used to land saiil.. this is a buddy and I a bunch of years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbTC0tZNEnQ

I still have this boat and a couple Manta Singles. Im hoping to spend more time in Lake Havasu AZ next winter and there is a big dry lake bed just north of Kingman that I want to try again (Red Lake - which will be about a 75 mile drive).

Most intense fun I have ever had sailing was at Smith Creek near Austin Nevada (a dry lake bed)..

I saw an ice boat/ land boat for sale a year or so back and thought about ware to store it... I just don't have room.
I could add skis to the Siren 17 trailer... Hmm. That could work.
But it's tough to find the right ice around here too.

Walt, I've done a fair amount of land-sailing and used to own a Manta Twin. There's a nice dry lake bed about 3 miles from my home where I can rent a land-yacht for $5.00 for the whole evening.

Finding, I understand not having the room to store things. I have the same issue. With both the boat and 5-th wheel taking up the RV parking I have to park my truck at my daughter's place.

As for what I did to my Mac today, I may have mentioned that last fall I used some handrail parts to install a flag pole on the stern of my 26d. Yesterday I installed an AcuRite 5-in-1 weather station on top of the flag pole. http://www.acurite.com/environments...ast-temperature-humidity-wind-rain-00502.html
We're planning to spend three weeks on the ocean next summer so I thought a weather station would be a good addition. I've read of other people using similar units on a boat so I thought I'd give it a try.

I have my 4 sailboats in a storage yard, canoe locked to the side of the shop along with 3 ladders, Truck parked at the shop, utility trailer is in the driveway with the 2 cars at home.
2 of the Mac's are heading to the North Channel this June. The Siren is going to the Yacht club in May and the other Mac is coming home so I can work on it. I'm not sure ware to put it when it's ready yet.
I forgot about the dinghy's... One at the storage yard and 2 in my basement.

My trailer needed some work. I've done a lot to it. Wheel bearings, tires, fixed fenders. Now it's the tail lights. Started by cutting old ones off . I'd built a new mast support for traveling that connects where rudder attaches. So I put led tail lights to it along with the license plate Ran new wires to back of trailer and put a plug there with wires to lights. Once I step the mast unplug the lights the support comes off and into camper shell and no lights in the water at all.Came out pretty slick. This summer i'll leave the boat in the water and have the boat trailer and everything that goes with it sandblasted and power coated. So it looks nice. Oh yeah week from tomorrow it's Dana Point put the old girl in the water and see if we can see some whales.
Love the cave.

Post picture of the whales when you go out.

Man.. I cant wait to get on the water again (Havasu in two weeks with the Mac). Ive been working on the trailer and a custom motor mount for the new Hobie TI. That little 2.5 hp outboard has an internal about 1 quart tank and with the extra about 1 quart tank I expect to have a motoring range of about 20 to 25 miles at 5 knots.

I ended up using about 4 or 5 pounds of aluminum for the motor mount (total weight of everything for motor mount is 6 pounds).. I bought it from a scrap metal place just N. of Denver.. I think Sumner would love this place. I ended up buying about 48 pounds of aluminum total (about 2.75 per pound).

Nice design, though I'd use S hooks for the connections and not line thru drilled holes. Too much chafe potential.

What about extending the non-motor side and offsetting the motor weight with a spare gas tank?

the hooks would be good.. also it would speed up removing or installing the bracket (although it is less than 30 seconds to remove it and less than 60 seconds to put it on).

That outboard only weighs 30 pounds so I’m not worried about the weight. Another guy on the Hobie forums has a bracket where he can mount two of the Honda 2.3 hp outboards, one on each side.

The outboard wont even be on the boat most of the time.. I haven’t actually used it yet so expect to find some other issue when I finally do. I’m sort of looking for a warm enough day to drive about 100 miles S of Denver to lake that is open all winter even though it usually has some ice in coves. This time of year there are bald eagles towards were the river comes in.

Got my new wiring for my anchor and steaming lights fed thru the mast yesterday. If you do this, be sure to use a metal fish tape- not fiberglass. It tends to coil up inside where the flat metal passes right thru!
We had record high temps today. I think most of the bald eagles left when the lake began to thaw. Only saw 2 today. 2 weeks ago there were probably 100.
I connected my new mast wiring to my deck plug today. I also pulled 2 pairs of cable from the top of the galley to the fuse panel. They are connected to the deck connector but I need to find a small SPDT rocker switch to flip from 'steaming' to 'anchor'. I don't want a toggle switch because I think it would get broken. Pity, because toggles are plentiful and just the right size and shape. The fuse panel is a rats nest of wiring, thank you MacGregor.

.... I need to find a small SPDT rocker switch to flip from 'steaming' to 'anchor'....
I have my anchor light on a separate switch and the other lights on a DPDT switch where center is off. Up and the bow/stern and mast light are on for running under power. Down and only the bow/stern lights are on for under-sail.

I could also use the under-sail position and turn the anchor all around light on for power but like the fact the other light is a little lower on the mast.

If one is interest in the wiring to the DPDT you tie the two center terminals together and also to your 12 volt supply. Then on one side tie the top and bottom terminal together and run from it to the bow and stern lights. On the switch's other side leave one terminal blank and run from the other to the mast light.

On using a toggle maybe mount one down very close to the corner there where you can't really get your foot into that area. I have one mounted on the aft end of the settee to turn the fridge on/off and so far that location has never been a problem,

Sumner

PS if the wiring is confusing I could post a picture of how the switch should be wired.

I slept on the problem and came up with an idea. What I should do is replace the original 'Mast' rocker with an ON OFF ON rocker and label it accordingly. Now I wish I had popped it out and measured the dimensions of the cutout in the panel. It's a 40 min drive to the lake.

I simply choose which wire plug to connect to the deck fitting but I do wish I had two so the unused connection terminals stayed fresh.
