Friggin' skied down it a few times. Well, a controlled slide, hands-free!
Mexico is dangerous, just not in the ways most people think.

Supper time!

I hope low gas price doesnt mean everyone is going to power boats.. but maybe. Hobie is doing well with these.. I just picked this up yesterday and am in the process of adapting the trailer. I like the variety of sailing different type of craft..

The 2015 TI's (what I have) have the new reverse "wave piercing" bow and new seats. But.. there was absolutely nothing at all wrong with the 2014 or earlier models and I somewhat like the older seats as you could just leave them in all the time - made setup and take down faster. I know at least one person who had a perfectly good earlier TI but must have the new model so is selling the older one for about the best price I have seen on one.. If I’m just sailing. I would rather be on a real sailboat. But these are nice for "water hikes" where you have some destination in mind and want some exercise.. If it’s going to be a very windy day, these also are my boat of choice. If I only could have one boat, it would still probably be a monohull that I could camp in.

new trailer lights

My trailer needed some work. I've done a lot to it. Wheel bearings, tires, fixed fenders. Now it's the tail lights. Started by cutting old ones off . I'd built a new mast support for traveling that connects where rudder attaches. So I put led tail lights to it along with the license plate Ran new wires to back of trailer and put a plug there with wires to lights. Once I step the mast unplug the lights the support comes off and into camper shell and no lights in the water at all.Came out pretty slick. This summer i'll leave the boat in the water and have the boat trailer and everything that goes with it sandblasted and power coated. So it looks nice. Oh yeah week from tomorrow it's Dana Point put the old girl in the water and see if we can see some whales.

I ordered a new tablet to test it for the navigation system on the charter boats.
I did a bunch of reaserch and finnaly decided on the Teclast X98 Air 3G. Link: http://www.teclast.com/en/news/002.html
It's kind of a Chinese knock off of a IPad Air 3G. But it does much more...
I'm looking forward to testing it out with different navigation apps.

Any suggestions on what apps work best on Android or Win 8.1 (It has dual OP systems.)

Woodzy, I like how you have the light bar attached to the mast crutch. I had thought about adding lights to the rear of the boat but didn't want one more thing to take off when setting up. great idea.

Good luck on the whale watching. The SoCal Potters, that we occasionally sail with, will be launching from Dana Point this weekend for some whale watching.

Walt, I've been intrigued by the TI and AI. I'm curious if you can use the center hull as a kayak or is it strictly a trimaran?

You gotta take off the mast crutch anyway and it's all one piece. So it's really not another thing.

Got my new wiring for my anchor and steaming lights fed thru the mast yesterday. If you do this, be sure to use a metal fish tape- not fiberglass. It tends to coil up inside where the flat metal passes right thru!

I didn't do anything to my boat but... My accomplice and I did something to our lake!
In an effort to speed up the thawing process I chopped a hole in it! She ran around stomping her feet and did some twirling too.
I figure that our effort has sped up the thawing process by tenths of seconds and has greatly affected the overall structural integrity of the 9x12x12 hole I made.
Only 3 maybe 4 more months of ice! Yea!

Today, I again sailed the Sea of Cortez, and was becalmed about two miles out during the return trip.
Saw at least three humpback whales, albeit from a few hundred yards off.

Here comes low tide in Puerto Penasco. Huge tides here.

Do you have auxillary power - such as a motor, of course? When becalmed, how long are you typically becalmed on the Sea of Cortez. I have a 21 foot Venture and have considered taking it down to Rocky Point sometime. I've been down there several times for long weekends, etc., but have never taken the sailboat down. Sailing the Sea of Cortez sounds pretty fantastic.

Of course I have an outboard. The 2 dogs that sail with us need their shore leave. :D

I couldn't say for certain how long one could drift without a breeze there. There's current, though.

I've been keeping my boat at Safe Marina, mast up, for about 6 months out of the year, so far.

How do you get there? Take 86 over and then south?

Could you leave a trailer/vehicle there long term, 6-10 weeks? Any idea as the the cost if that is possible?

Instead of driving down to Guaymas and then sailing north some what would you think about putting in at Rocky Point and going south 100-150 miles and back?

Thanks,

Sumner

For a vehicle, they want $5.00/day. My boat and trailer costs me $120.00/month. Don't know about a trailer only.

011-526-383-831145 is the last # I have for the marina.

Sounds dangerous. Count me in. :D

Although I think the waters and islands down nearer Guaymas would be better as a starting/finishing point, things are usually more expensive down there.

There are zero chandleries in RP.

Thanks for the info and I'll keep that phone number. I've read trip reports putting in at Guaymas and it looks like a lot like to then head north around those Islands you mentioned. Looks like the north end of that area is about 100 miles south of Rocky Point so one could probably reach the northern part of that area in 3 days or so and then spend time there and over to Baja and then finally make the run north back to the vehicle/trailer.

I use to go to Mexico in the 70's and once took my van down there for a month and went to Oaxaca south of Mexico City and then over to the coast south of Acapulco and then north. I know the road to Guaymas is good but still would just as soon not drive any further than needed in Mexico. Is it still a crime down there to be involved in an accident no matter who is at fault? So Rocky Point appeals to me from the driving less and boating further standpoint.

I have the Mac in Florida now and will leave it here or up the east coast someplace until I'm sure I'm done with this area. After that the Sea of Cortez is high on the list once I haul the boat back west,
