I had an 8 hp Honda on mine and replaced it with a 5 hp Mercury propane. It works fine. I bought the standard Sailboat model without the extra long shaft. The mount on the H240 is very low to the water.Does anybody have advice whether the Tahatsu Sailpro 6hp will be adequate for my Hunter 240? It is supposed to be very efficient.

Strong wind yes... but hull speed is hull speed (through water) regardless of which direction the current is running. If your hull speed is 6 kts and the current is 8 kts, you are not going against the current ... even with a 9.9.... should you sail in a river or an area of strong currents, high seas or strong winds you may want to consider an 8HP.
Well.... I flipped it forward when I wanted to go forward and backwards when I wanted to go backwards...how do people operate the throttle/gears when on the back of a 240?

thanks for the reply, that's what I was thinking, could be a bit awkward when things need to happen quickly. It takes a long arm. I dial up he resistance knob so that is will hold a straight heading and then steer with the tiller. It is awkward when you are docking and need to put her in reverse and turn the throttle. It feels like you are falling off the stern. I have the five HP that they make for Mercury and it is only 57 lbs. It would be ideal if I had remote control that I could use while sitting in one of the stern seats. I could easily dock the boat single handed with my boat hook.View attachment 204594
do you know if they can be easily connected and disconnected? my boat will be on a mooring so would want to remove the outboard every time to avoid theft.Simple. You can purchase a remote control box from the motor manufacturer with parts to attach cables with.
Yep! Mine got stollen.do you know if they can be easily connected and disconnected? my boat will be on a mooring so would want to remove the outboard every time to avoid theft.
How about an extension pole for the throttle handle? Longer, the better, right?how do people operate the throttle/gears when on the back of a 240?
