No Problem. Just take it slow. By all means, let us know how everything works out.
Good luck!

Hi all just had an email from Beneteau Uk they have found the replacement fitting kit but it will take 4 weeks or longer to deliver it from France!!!! Beneteau UK have been very helpful and have forwarded a diagram of the stern tube set up but the part I need is not identified by any number. But Beneteau France have said the part number for the replacement fitting kit is PN 460646 pictures are below. (repair kit 460646 “STERN TUBE FITTING REPAIR KIT” 47,36 €)
I don't know if this will be of any use to anyone but thought I would put it on here just in case.

Would appreciate the Beneteau UK / Beneteau France contact info. and final cost also.
Also, after you receive the kit, let us know if it is the exact same fitting as the OEM fitting that broke. The photo on the left appears different in size as compared to your fitting that broke; the photo on the right appears to be the correct size fitting. Hopefully you will receive the correct fitting. As I mentioned previously in an earlier post, I recently bought a kit from Annapolis Yacht Sales. I spoke to the parts manager and she told me that they had a US manufacturer duplicate the OEM fitting. When I received the kit, the fitting was not to the OEM specs, different size as well as thin wall brass. I hope that your source has the OEM fitting, if so I will definitely order a kit. Thanks for the update

Hi Gunni I have not used her since the hose barb broke off. I do however need to get her from her mooring to the pontoon a distance of a 100 meters or so, do you think this distance would affect the seal?
No problem with that move. You are protecting the hydraulic friction cones / disks in the transmission - they are only lubed when the transmission is operating.

That fitting looks as if it is a fairly standard male pipe to barb fitting. Probably not much bigger than 1/4" NPT. Might be even smaller.
I just looked up pipe to barb fittings on eBay and there are several sizes shown, including some metric sizes. Probably brass, bronze may be harder to locate.
Prices are $10 US or less for more than one in a package. Probably cost more than that to ship to the UK

I think that the fitting size is 1/8"mnpt x 1/4" or 3/8" hose barb. Was looking at another site and the nomenclature for these fittings is a bit confusing. On the mnpt side, the measurement is the internal diameter of the fitting; on the hose barb side, the measurement is the external diameter of the fitting (internal diameter of the hose).
Another thing about this fitting, when I removed mine, last year, I used a pair of vise grip pliers as there was no hex between the mnpt side and the barb side; it was constructed more like a nipple. Without the hex, it allowed beneteau to build up around the nipple with the "special epoxy" fillet to give more strength. When I removed my fitting for inspection, the epoxy remained in place and I was able to reinsert the same fitting without difficulty.
With regards to the Radice Axial Seal, that Philip posted, I had seen this seal on the Ben 423 site. It looks like an upgraded version of our Volvo seal. I had a few concerns that you guys might want to comment on. First, there is still a brass/bronze water fitting inserted in the rubber housing. The fitting is still going to be subject to salt water corrosion and possibly galvanic corrosion (it is still inches away from the SS shaft in a water bath). It doesn't appear that there is a provision for removing and inspecting the barbed fitting; the general consensus is to replace the fitting every 2-3 years or at least remove and inspect it. If the fitting does fail, would you have to replace the entire shaft seal? What is the strongest attachment method, a fitting encapsulated in rubber or a fitting encapsulated in fiber glass? Another concern is the rubber stopper that is a lubrication port. The shaft seal is subject to quite a bit of vibration; If the rubber stopper pops open, there is the potential for flooding the boat. I prefer the absence of the lube port and simply doing the annual lubrication using the "Mc Donald's" straw technique. Would like to know what manufacturers are using this seal and the replacement history and maintenance problems. I think that most would agree that the Volvo seal is mostly problem free; its just the darn brass fitting and the attachment method that is the big issue.
