Slack shrouds on leeward side?

You mentioned worrying about a shackle coming loose. Just get some seizing wire and using the hole in the pin seize it to the body of the shackle so it can't unscrew, then tape it so the sharp edge of the wire doesn't chafe on the mast and scratch the anodize. You might be able to get a plastic tie in that hole and use that as an alternate to seizing wire.

thank U for setting them all straight
and yeah, I'm pretty sure about that
Wow.... so maybe the quick link (carabiner thing) was actually an upgrade.

Question: If you were to replace your MacGregor's rigging, would you use the factory method, or install more traditional, sweged marine eye or fork connectors.

is an up grade necessary
will one actually gain a mechanical advantage in performance safety
as the forces, loads go up? then form follows function!
I was into expermintal aircraft, and there was 1 thing that was #1, weight!!
make it strong and make it light make it simple, make it hold anywhere from 2 gs< normal catagory 4gs< utility or 6gs aerobatic
and KISS it keep it simple stupid!
its a light weight coastal cruser not a Rolex Racer

That's why such a bizarre assembly of odd components is so off-putting. There are too many connections and they also don't look to be designed for convenience. I'm guessing that the purpose of the quick links is to make it easier to remove the shrouds entirely from the mast. It would be far simpler to change out the tangs so the nicopressed eye could be connected directly with a clevis pin, thus, shortening the shrouds as needed. The shrouds don't really need to be removed from the mast for convenience, do they?

Also, there is no reason for multiple toggles at the bottom when the threaded rod could be swaged directly to the wire. The turnbuckle is attached to the chainplate with a clevis pin, as is normal. But for a trailerable boat, the lower connections want to be fast and adjustable, so I'll agree that this objective must be accommodated. KISS ... I agree.

well first things first.
I think I will take her out again just to see what I got, but regardless the "C" shackles are going. I dont see the need in ever having to remove those and if a need arises I can just remove the tangs right? I will go with the "d shackles for now but when I have a little more cash I will probably just replace everything and swag the lines to the tangs. I think I will just keep the solid tangs rather then go with a two piece for the sake of simplicity.

Joe brings up a good point for me at least. Forks or eyes? Obviously forks for the chain plate side but why not eyes for the wire side? the only reason I can see for forks on the line side would be to replace the turnbuckles with out having to make a new shroud/stay. Which leads me to ask how likely is it that a turnbuckle would be damaged? (FYI I just don't like Rogers turnbuckle alternative I don't know what they are called and I have no reason to not like them other then I don't like how the look. Jagged and fine tuning seems not likely.) BUT again I have only had a sailboat for about 6 months and Ive only been out on it once so.....

Yes, I think the point is that you should be able to modify the rigging so that it best suits YOU and solves your immediate problem.

Good luck and happy sailing!

Is that "good luck with that mast falling on your head" or is that good luck I think this guy will get it right?

FYI, looking around for rigging I have ran accross all of the components we have been discussing. I think maybe e-rigging.com is not Sailboat specific???,
but hey! I feel better about the Ring! I wounder if the ring was meant for the load its carrying?

still want to get rid of the quick links..

None of the stuff on the erigging.com page you screenshot is appropriate for sailboat standing rigging.
